Melbourne Music Week returns

Melbourne Music Week (MMW) will return to the streets of Melbourne this November, showcasing over 130 acts performing at 40 different locations during the course of nine days.

Following on from last year’s debut event, MMW is back in 2011 with a “redefined artistic direction” which will highlight both local and international bands and feature live performances, films, workshops and gigs in laneways, record stores, cafes and traditional venues.

While the full program isn’t being released until October, the MMW has revealed a sneak peek of what is in store.

‘Labels Live’ will be a series of gigs curated by different independent Melbourne music labels , including Mistletone and Two Bright Lakes. The Mistletone event will be set at St Michael’s Church in the CBD and feature HTRK, Beaches, The Orbweavers, Montero and Wintercoats; while Two Bright Lakes will see Oscar + Martin and Teeth & Tongue performing on the rooftop of Melbourne Central, which we can only assume is somewhere inside that pointy pyramid.

The ‘Cinemix’ concept that was run with ACMI at last year’s event will also return, with Midnight Juggernauts providing the soundtrack to to the 1960s British newsreel series Look at Life.

And lastly the first international band to be confirmed for Melbourne Music Week is experimental electronic artist Daedelus, who was last out here in 2009 for the Laneway Festival.

The full Melbourne Music Week program will be revealed on 19th October, but expect more artist announcements before then.
