Obie Trice to headline thereturn of HeatWave festival

Update: (7/12/11)
The full lineup has now been released

Earlier Updates:
The festival has announced D12 (without Eminem of course) and Crazy Town, who have “only played two shows together since 2003”, to the lineup. Adealide born Juggalo rapper KidCrusher has also posted a note on this site to announce that he’ll be hitting the show up with [alternative models] Bub Zombie, Xibalba Bunny and Nexus Effected

The South Australia’s HeatWave festival launched in 2010 with Xzibit as the headline act after a year off it’ll return from the 13th-15th of January with a slightly different, and very intriguing, new format.

The weekend long camping festival in Middleton, South Australia (an hour and a half from Adelaide) will be a dusk till dawn festival taking its inspiration similar festivals in Russia. Tickets are $59 for a night ticket or $99 for a full weekend pass, with camping included.

HeatWave boasts that it will feature international artists on both nights and despite his recent issues with the cancelled/postponed Ice Cube tour, the festival’s promoter Patrick Whyntie has locked in long time Eminem collaborator Obie Trice as the first act to be confirmed for the 2012 lineup. Obie Trice (“real name, no gimmicks”) hasn’t visited Australia since 2003 and as he declares in the audio clip below, he’ll also “hit every major city on tour” with dates to be announced shortly.

According to the HeatWave festival’s latest Facebook update Three 6 Mafia, Alien Ant Farm and Tech N9ne are all in the running to play the headline set on the Friday night, while the festival’s old Twitter account reveals that Whyntie was also keen to book Limp Bizkit and comedian Tom Green for the show.

The festival also claims to be building “one of the states biggest festival DJ lineups ever” with the DJ’s playing in a club tent that will be “re-themed every 6 hours” to various international themes including Ibiza, Miami, London, Rio De Janeiro, Las Vegas, Dublin and Tokyo.

Festival promoter Patrick Whyntie, who released his own festival anthem Jaydos Says (Festival Song) under his stage name Mastacraft last year, is also sure to perform.

$99 for a weekend of music with camping is insanely good value. I really hope this is a decently run festival and people take it on board, sounds awesome. Obie trice, alien ant farm and tom green over two days sounds like value to me.

yeah, i’ll probably go to this regardless of who is on it.

to drive, anywhere, in south australia costs $30, and an entire weekend of outside awesome in the middle of summer for $99 = exceptionally good value.

the living-costs of camping, anywhere, in south australia = the costs of living at home, anywhere, in south australia.

overpriced drinks = crip walking to alien ant farms song about movies.

hotdog weekend diet = win.

Yeah, but you're still in SA. So, really: lose.

So now it look like D12 are a chance for this as well - D12, Obie, Alien Ant and Tech9.

Mind boggled.

D12 without Eminem? Because that would just be D10

Ok this is officially the most mental festival ever attempted in Australia - Crazy Town have been added to the lineup.

I can't believe this hasn't been cancelled already due to lack of interest.

If this is the sort of thing that sells tickets in Adelaide, I'm not surprised that good bands rarely play there.

But what about this?!

If you were making a list of the worst bands of the '90s, it would be hard to leave Crazy Town off.

I kinda wanna go now... if there is a Sydney leg with tickets for $30 or less I will definitely attend

braveheart lack of interest? no way this is hot out here, our ability to promote & build buzz is huge. we're not in 'adelaide' we're a tourist destination quite a bit out of it....how can you hate on obie trice? d12 are great even without eminem loads of fun live. crazytown are more of a pick to reach a different base who where into them in the early 2000's.

plenty more to come with our price still being ridiculously low.

Crazy Town were only relevant in 2001 Braveheart, get your facts right.

And now they're teasingly posting Limp Bizkit lyrics and names like Aston Shuffle, 360, YelaWolf, Alice Deejay, Bombs Away, Kid Cudi and Insane Clown Posse on their Facebook wall... what is this madness?

grattan

grattan said on the 20th Sep, 2011

More madness - this festival just keeps on giving!
Adelaide Juggalo (yet, a home grown Juggalo!) KidCrusher has the festival listed in his upcoming shows.

From HeatWave's FB:
Thankyou Grattan at Faster Louder for the tounge in cheek love your giving us. Only Obie & D12 are confirmed & certainly no local supports are. We'll likely have CrazyTown they are down to play us & we love their hit album on the coast! If you want we'll give you the exclusive scoop on Act #4! Seeing as it's a national scoop ;)
