First J Awards nominationsannounced

The first three nominations for ‘Album Of The Year’ in the 2011 J Awards have been announced this week, with hip-hop and electro records leading the field early.
Selected on “quality and what defined that year in music” the first nominations include Art Vs Science’s The Experiment, Drapht’s The Life Of Riley and Architecture In Helsinki’s Moment Bends.
Previous winner’s of this award include Tame Impala for their critically acclaimed debut Innerspeaker, Wolfmother, The Panics and Sarah Blasko. The winning record is selected for “being an outstanding musical work of art; for its creativity, musicianship and its contribution to Australian music”, and the decision is made by triple j staff including Music Director Richard Kingsmill and presenters.
The J Awards also include ‘Australian Music Video of the Year’ and ‘Unearthed Artist of the Year’, which last year were taken out by Washington for her Sunday Best clip and Boy & Bear.
Winners will be announced in November, during triple j’s Ausmusic Month.
