More bands for Falls Festival

If you were one of the many Australian’s who voted Regurgitator’s Unit into the number ten spot on triple j’s ‘Hottest 100 Albums of All Time’ then you’ll be plenty chuffed to know that Quan, Ben and Peter will be playing their 1997 classic in full at this year’s Falls Festival.

Also joining The Gurge on the fourth Falls announcement is Melbourne up-and-comers Alpine, the beautiful Beirut, Grizzly Bear’s Chris Taylor with his new musical project CANT, The Grates and indie electronic whiz Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs .

The Funk n Soul review will also return this year under its new name Boogie Nights. Taking place on the first night of the festival, Boogie will be a mini party featuring cabaret, go-go dancers, French rockers Babylon Circus , lover of toffee apples Peter Comb, organ maestro Barry Morgan and many more performers and DJs.

still havent announced two of the three headliners. I cant imagine fleet foxes will be headlining. so TV on the radio will probably be one of them

On facebook Falls just posted: 'Anyone who purchases a ticket through the ballot from August 8th has the chance to win a $3000 AirAsia flight voucher!'.

Does this mean that we can expect the full lineup to be out by then? I had thought in previous years the line-up was always out before the ballot allocation came out....

Have until the 15th to buy tickets, but I need to see the rest of the lineup before I decide.

Does Tassie have the same lineup as Lorne usually? Tassie actually looks amazing as a site!

3 days in Tassie is only $216 including camping so I guess the festival is a smaller version of Lorne...

So will full lineups for each site be out before the 15th?

Last year the lineup came out on the 11th, the year before that it was the 8th, so I would assume (hope) it will be this week sometime.

On the website, it looks as if all the major bands play both sites, but Tassie is heaps cheaper.

pretty sure more people got ballots than missed out this year. i dont think many people signed up to the ballot. probably means there will be no market for them on ebay.

Does anybody know why they aren't doing Sunset Sounds next year? Pretty annoyed, this is a pretty tight lineup, hoping for some Crystal Castles and Aloe Blacc sideshows in Brisbane, and fuck Gurge doing 'UNIT' would be so good.

To recap every other Falls thread so far: the Gardens trust aren't allowing use of the parklands after intense destruction last year. Last year, of course, being just before the QLD floods,so it could've been argued that it was just the shit weather but I guess they dont want to take that risk.

3 & 4 day ballot tickets to Lorne are now sold out. Some of the rage on the falls FB page is quite entertaining. I think those people missed the memo on how the ballot actually works, even though its been state a million times.

I was going to use mine for Tassie anyway, but without full lineup I'm still undecided.
Thought it would be out before the ballot, only 4 dyas before it expires?
Guess I'll just do sideshows as I only want to see Crystal Castles and Fleet Foxes so far...

if you could compare it to splendour at

havent been to splendour but..........

crowdwise: about 18000 (+ bushbashers) which is the perfect limit for a camping festival.
set up: main stage at the bottom of a hill. second stage within a tent at the top of the hill with all food stalls scattered around the edge of the main ampitheatre.
camping: most of the site is not level terrain which is rather annoying especially if it rains. depending on what time you get into the site on what day you might be camping right next to the main arena or you might be a km away. its all random.
toilets and showers: there are enough scattered around to service everybody but they still get pretty filthy pretty quickly. most people i know dont bother showering over the 4 days. definitely bring some toilet paper of your own as well because they are likely to run out when you need it most. the toilets are also enviromentally friendly toilets so no water is used. you basically just shit into a pit below.

once you go to falls once you will probably return every year. it is probably the perfect festival IMO. this will be my 6th year.

I should add to this. Even though i stated the flood would have done much more damage. To be honest, there was a torrential downpour during the festival last year. It wasn't really the punters fault the turf got destroyed. Just the amount of people and all that rain... Never going to be a positive result.

good call will, festivals at the supernatural ampitheatre (meredith and plains) kick the shit out of any festival australia has to offer, no exception, ever. having said that, falls is a helluva lot of fun, and by far the best thing to do for your nye. lineup looks really promising so far this year, hopefully they've got a few bombs up their sleeve to announce closer to it happening. definitely already well worth buying a ticket. for anyone thinking of doing the tassie thing, i'd highly recommend it. i went in 2009/10, caught the ferry over and had a ball. the lineup is identical in most cases, except you sometimes get better scheduling. for example that year we got the yeah yeah yeahs bringing in the new year, as opposed to shitty shitty shitty hilltop hoods in lorne. if you do go to tassie, get flights/boat sorted asap, the cheap ticket price can be offset by outrageous travel expenses.
