The 60th Melbourne International Film Festival will feature movies about some of the Australian music scene’s most diverse and notable icons, including Roland S. Howard, Ben Lee and the passionate fight for the beloved Melbourne venue The Tote in Persecution Blues: The Battle For the Tote.
Other films include I’m Not Dead Yet about life of country king Chad Morgan (narrated by Tex Perkins). Better Than Something on the life of Jay Reatard and how his death redefined American punk and The Ballad of Genesis and Lady Jaye, a love story of proto-punk and plastic surgery featuring Genesis P-Orridge, founder of industrial band Throbbing Gristle.
Favourites from the recent Sydney Film Festival will also be shown. Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels of A Tribe Called Quest is a controversial look at the unexpected split of the jazz-tinted hip hop legends. LennoNYC is an intimate insight into unreleased outtakes and studio demos of John Lennon’s final years in New York.
The Melbourne International Film Festival runs from 21th July – 7th August.
