The New York Dolls have pulled Australian tour dates from their website following revelations yesterday the band were visiting Australia in October for a series of cigarette trade shows.

The Boroughs tour dates have been confirmed.

Thanks to some serious sleuthing from FL sister site Mess + Noise, we can report that The Dolls will hit Australia later this year to play eight shows, at least three of which will be for the tobacco giant.

According to the report on Mess + Noise “While technically legal, the invite-only events exploit a loophole in the Tobacco Advertising Prohibition Act 1992, which strictly limits sponsorship and promotional activities for cigarette companies.”

A description of the last such event held by Stuyvesant in 2008 reads as follows: _”The Peter Stuyvesant Trade Event transformed the Old Melbourne Gaol into a New York back alley. Entering via the rear entrance, guests fell onto the dirty street scape and wehere (sic) captivated by the absolute debuchary (sic). Different cells of the Gaol displayed a series of outragous (sic) acts including; A barber trimming beards, Naked ladies being sketched, Mug shots being taken, Tattoo artists with real needles, Black Jack and Poker Tables.

The Boroughs tour dates are unrelated to the trade shows the band will be playing in Australia.

Saturday 8th October – The Boroughs @ Globe Warehouse, Melbourne
Sunday 9th October – Fowlers Live, Adelaide
Thursday 13th October – The Hi-Fi, Brisbane
Saturday 15th October – Manning, Sydney
