No Sunset Sounds in 2012

Sunset Sounds, which has run as the Brisbane leg of the Falls Festival/Southbound festival tour since 2009, will sadly not be returning to the Riverstage in 2012.

Rubbing salt in the wound, the first lineup announcement for the Falls and Southbound festivals has just been announced with Arctic Monkeys and Fleet Foxes leading the charge.

So without a local festival in Brisbane to bring in the new year of live music will there actually be sideshows in Brisbane as a result? Stranger things have happened…

I know they ruined the botanic gardens last time, but it could have moved venues or something?

I'm sure Brizzy will get some shows for this, it's usually only Byron/Woodford festivals that don't give us sideshows.

That's fucked. Out of all the lineups this one would have been by far at the top of my list to see. This year was obviously a scene of absolute carnage, but don't write it off after one off year...

I'd say they may have been banned and possibly fined by the Botanic Gardens as I heard the damage was extensive and cost a bundle to fix after the event?

but why is parklife allowed at botantic gardens this year? im thinking its cause it wasnt a sell out this year and just didnt make as much money as previous ones....

It wasn't entirely SS's fault, with torrential rain all summer and over that weekend made it easier for the punters to have a glastonbury mud moment. And then the floods hit to make it all the worse damage wise...

Yeah it was pretty bad. Not really Sunset Sounds' fault though, it was a once in 50 year or something rain event. No-one couldve stopped the site getting damaged....

And yes, it didn't sell out last year...dunno why though, $160 for 2 days of quality live music was pretty cheap I thought

Edit: And didn't the whole venue completely flood a few days later anyway?

It won't be because the ground got wrecked, this will happen at any concert at the riverstage after the amount of rain they had.

it doesn't make sense to cancel this at the gardens due to damage but not parklife. if anything, the floods would've covered the festival's damage. there's gotta be another reason...

They didnt ruin the gardens, the mass of rain kinda helped. But it got flooded a week later anyway, i don't think any damage we did there was worse than that!
