FBi Social now a permanentvenue

As the new 600 punter capacity venue Upstairs at the Beresford prepares to open this week, the news has just arrived that the FBi Social will continue on as a permanent venue.

Following a successful 12-week trial period, FBi Radio’s general manager Evan Kaldor has announced that “The trial has far exceeded our expectations – we’ve had over 6,000 punters attending 40 gigs played by 80 bands from across Sydney and Australia. FBi Social has proven that Sydney can sustain, and indeed embraces, more music venues. We think FBi Social has an important role to play as a smaller capacity, intimate space for emerging bands in Sydney”.

During the trial period the venue, on level 2 of the Kings Cross Hotel, has hosted Jack Ladder, Dappled Cities, Bleeding Knees Club, World’s End Press and many more. FBi Social will continue programming Thursday through Saturday nights and will look to open more nights, including Sundays and special events, from August.

Venues opening and remaining open in Sydney?! What is this strange new land we’re living in? Let’s just ignore the brief attempt to launch a live venue in the belly of Star City casino, shall we…

Great news. Kings cross is generaly the last place I want to be at any time, let alone on a weekday, but I'll try and make the effort to get to more of these

Yeah, great news. Only been to one venue in Kings Cross, Melt Bar, but I've heard great things about this place.

I've always found the cross to be more tolerable on a weekday then a week end

Great news. It's a good little setup. They'd managed to sell out the Jack Ladder gig I went to a couple of weeks ago (luckily I had pre-sales). I look forward to visiting again.

Jack Ladder gig was oversold - with folk just walking in past the dozey doorbloke.

Now that you mention it, I saw the doorguy getting told off by one of the bouncers for not checking stamps properly.

Good. But just don't say he sounds like Nick Cave

^ Why because that would be too obvious? :p

Red Riders sold out aages before the gig huh, I would have liked to have gone to that.

The new band is cool. The guitarist from Mercy Arms stood out for me. He reverbs like a pro. I'm not familar with JL's old stuff, but I do like the sound of his new stuff.

Red Riders was awesome.

I've only seen Jack Ladder once, back at Splendour 09. He was good, though, wouldn't mind seeing him again.
