Tex Perkins to release a kidsalbum

Tex Perkins has recorded rock, punk, country, jazz and tongue-in-cheek pop with bands including the The Beasts of Bourbon, Cruel Sea, Dark Horses and the Ladyboyz and now he can add children’s entertainer to his impressive resume.

Perkins has teamed up with actor, former Playschool host and co-author of Kevin Rudd’s book Jasper and Abby and the Great Australia Day Kerfuffle, Rhys Muldoon to record an album for kids.

It’s great news for any parents who are sick of the Wiggles and are still slightly freaked out by the recent visit by Yo Gabba Gabba, even though we almost missed the significance of the news when we published our interview with Tex earlier today.

Thankfully Muldoon tweeted the interview to his fans and mentioned that “Tex mentions a certain secret project” in the chat… yep, that’s right we got the scoop and almost missed it! Forgive us for now being completely up to date on the world of children’s albums.

Tex told us that he has “contributed a few performances to Rhys Muldoon’s new kids’ album which will be out next month I believe. It’s kind of an edgy kids’ album.” When asked how you make a children’s album ‘edgy’ Tex explained that “Rhys gets down and dirty with the kids. Poo is a big issue when you’ve got little kids. They need to learn about what to do. Would The Wiggles ever deal with poo? [We go] where The Wiggles won’t go.”

Finally a rival to the Wiggles domination of the ARIA award for Best Australian Children’s Album more worthy that Hi-5 and the Hooley Dooleys!
