Hottest 100 Australian Albumsof All Time

Thanks to triple j we know that the hottest song of 2010 was Angus & Julia Stone’s Big Jet Plane; that Nirvana’s Smells Like Teen Sprit is the hottest song ever written and that women can’t write decent tunes. Now the national broadcaster is looking for your help to find the Hottest 100 Australian Albums of All Time.

You can only vote for full length albums – so no EPs, mini-albums or greatest hits collections allowed – and, of course, the bands must be Australian. Australian citizens who currently and mainly work overseas are fine – Hello, Nick Cave, AC/DC and Kylie! As are overseas born musicians who live (or have lived) and have (or have had) a base in Australia – we think that’s called the ‘ Crowded House clause’.

To get you thinking about which albums you might include in your votes triple j asked more than 175 musicians and ‘industry experts’ – including FasterLouder’s editor Sarah Smith, The Living End’s Chris Cheney, Dan Sultan, Gareth Liddiard, Megan Washington, Patience Hodgson from the Grates and the Splendour In The Grass and Laneway promoters – for their favourite Australian albums of all time.

Dystopia's really good, as is Bright Like Neon Love. Didn't like the later albums even half as much, though.

Apocalypso is also a much better album than Beams, which suffered from too many tracks that went pretty much nowhere.

No way. I Go Hard, I Go Home is one of the best tracks they've ever done. Shits on anything off Apocalypso except TBIL, which I am biased towards. Girl (You Chew Up My Mind) is the last great punky track they did. Hill Stuck is incredimazing. Beams rules.

I just voted for 'Back in Black' - AC/DC. 'Guide to Better Living' - Grinspoon. 'Two Fires' - Jimmy Barnes. 'The Living End' - The Living End. 'Five Star Laundry' - Motor Ace. 'Murder Ballads' - Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds. 'Tu-Plang' - Regurgitator. 'Frogstomp' - Silverchair. 'Hi Fi Way' - You Am I. 'The Screaming Jets' - Screaming Jets. That last one is a sure fire winner for me, the soundtrack to my teenage years. I'm 31.

avalanches, the - since i left you
cut copy - in ghost colours
grinspoon - new detention
hunters & collectors - cut
jebediah - slightly odway
motor ace - five star laundry
powderfinger - odyssey number five
presets, the - apocalypso
regurgitator - unit
temper trap, the - conditions

only started doing it in the last 3 hrs of voting, and spending most of that time to go from 15 to 13 to 11, then 11 to my final 10 took about an hour... i went more with ones that have been my favourites over the years, rather than what i necessarily think are the 10 greatest of all time.

'the living end - the living end', 'spiderbait - ivy and the big apples', 'superjesus - sumo' and 'sia - colour the small one' and the whitlams were the next 5, and i also couldn't split crowded house - crowded house and woodface, so just left them both out of the running 'cos i couldn't be fucked! internationalist also would've been in the top 10 had i not had a rule of one album each. not that anyone would overly care, but just felt like posting!

looks like they've already begun revealing the top 100, with 81-100 already on their website - http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/hottest100/alltime/11/

guess it's a bit late to be entering the tipping comp then, but i'm surprised no one seemed to think 'hilltop hoods - the calling' wouldn't get in there, as knowing the recent hottest 100 voting patterns, i think it's almost a certainty for top 10 finish. not saying i think it should be there though...

speaking of, i think there's a few others in already that will really please some of you..!
