FasterLouder wins most popularwebsite WAMi
Sun 29th May, 2011 in Local News
The 2011 WAMis concluded with a rowdy awards ceremony in Perth last night, dominated by newcomers Split Seconds who took home four awards – or about 10 kg worth of WAMington.
FasterLouder was voted most popular website in the WAMi 2011 Awards for the third year running – so a big thank you for all your votes and contributions, FasterLouder can only ever be as good as its people, and our people are awesome.
Other winners included Tame Impala, Birds of Tokyo, The Brow Horn Orchestra, the Rosemount Hotel and the Laneway Festival. The Best Commercial Pop category tied for first place for the first time in WAMi history. Felicity Groom and Tim & Jean shared the honours (and the delicious award ).
The night was presided over by Dylan Lewis and triple j’s Dom Alessio who filled the spaces between awards with many a bad pun. A great deal of the bands who won on the night expressed their genuine surprise in having taken out their categories, particularly Injured Ninja who took the opportunity to recommend some of the “real punk bands” Perth has to offer such as Brown and Frozen Ocean.
The Bakery was packed full of Perth’s music industry representatives all chatting amiably with one another and demonstrating the truth of Alessio’s observation that few people in the Perth music world do just one thing; most play multiple instruments in different bands as well as managing another band or booking for venues.
The folks at WAM always do an amazing job with the festival as well as during the rest of the year supporting the local industry with competitions, resources and assistance for bands to learn about how to get themselves out there, this year’s celebration was one they should be proud of.
