Modular boss says the newAvalanches LP is 'finished',again

Every few months we get some tiny skerrick of information about the long awaited second full length from Australian sample-delica legends The Avalanches is nearing completion.

Today we have more vague speculation-fueling word about the next Avalanches LP, this time coming from the group’s label boss and current Vivid LIVE curator Steve Pavlovic who told The Music Network that the new record is almost done.“They’re finished and they’re celebrating,” the Modular kingpin proclaimed. “They’re going to have a little party to celebrate finishing it. The next stage will see the album go to someone to mix. And then we’ll probably drop a song later this year, and the album early next year.”

That’s great and all but skeptics will of course recall that in 2008 the same guy said that he would be receiving a finished copy of the disc on Christmas Day of that year, that in May 2009 the band reportedly began clearing samples, that triple j claimed in January last year that we’d hear the album in October 2010 and then retracted that prediction and in June last year an administrator on the Avalanches’ message board announced that “i hear ariel pink is recording some guest vocals for it and once those are done, the album will be finished (!).”

From Modular -
The Avalanches popped into the Radio Soulwax studio at the Opera House for chat with David & Stephen from 2manydjs. The full interview is airing on triple j this evening from 6pm AEST - and will be available on-demand on-line.

For the first time in almost a decade Tony and Robbie chatted about making music and their favourite Australian bands.

They were suitably vague on details but did confirm that they have been working on a new album - in fact they have enough material for four! Now the hard part is narrowing down the tracks for the mixing process...

Stay tuned, there's plenty of exciting Avalanches news to come in the coming months.
