Kasey Chambers wins firstplace in the InternationalSongwriting Competition

Kasey Chambers has beaten out 15,000 entrants to win first place in the International Songwriting Competition, a decision made by a panel of musicians including Tom Waits, Peter Gabriel, Robert Smith and Kings Of Leon.
Chambers was awarded US $25,000 for her song Beautiful Mess which she penned about her children Arlo and Talon and features backing vocals from Missy Higgins. She was also won first place in the Americana category for her song Devil On Your Back and second place in the Performance category for Little Bird.
Kasey wasn’t the only Australian to make the cut either; the following Aussies were also recognised:
Basement Birds: First place n the AAA (Adult Album Alternative) category for Bus Stop.
Kimbra: First place in the Pop/Top 40 category for Settle Down.
Hewey Eustace: First place in the Children’s category for Every Little Drop from the the animated Children’s series, dirtgirl/dirtworld.
Second and third place winners form Australia include Megan Washington, Paul Dempsey, The Chemist, Sierra Fin, Glenn Richards, Children Collide, Inland Sea, Jonah’s Road, Anna Weathrup and My Fiction.
