Elton John is headed DownUnder

The Rocket Man himself, Sir Elton John is set to return to our shores this December for a national tour, ruling him out as a possible headliner for Soundwave Revolution.

It has been over three years since the man responsible for that Tiny Dancer sing-a-along scene in Almost Famous ( and a few other hits you may have heard ) graced us with his presence. The last time he was in town our reviewer gushed “…when he does return, if you want to see one of the defining musicians of rock and roll, you should go.”

There has also been some speculation that given the timing of his tour, John may be making an appearance at the ARIA’s, with the the Elton John News blog reporting: “Sir Elton has had a long association with Australia. He hosted the first ever ARIA Awards at Sydney’s then Sheraton Wentworth Hotel in 1987. And with the event celebrating its 25th year around the time of Sir Elton’s tour, industry speculation suggests there’s talk of him making an appearance.”

Given it wouldn’t be his de-butt performance at the awards ceremony the rumour does seem likely.

Its about $180-$300 AUD, although its the only show he's doing in NZ so the Aussie shows may be cheaper.

Chugg website states that his only NSW show will be at the Hunter Valley. So no SEC and probably no ARIAs... looks like I'll be making the trip to the Hunter/Melbourne

Just get to the Hunter show, I realize that its a couple of hours away from Sydney but the experience at Hope Estate is a million times better than the soulless barns that are SEC or ACER Arena!

PS - Don't forget to book accommodation early, all the hotels in town fill up about a week after the tickets go on sale.

Or gamble and hang out for a Sydney Show ( I don't think there will be one, but if there is they'll almost certainly wait until the Hunter is close to selling out before announcing it)

I don't see him as a gay icon at all... he was huge way before he ever came out. And last night i asked my gay mates to come see elton and I got laughed at. But... $380 for general admission plus a hamper/wine in the hunter is decent. Not sure what GA tickets are as I couldn't find them. I saw carole king and james taylor at hope estate, epic venue

I think that being possibly the most famous gay musician alive, being in a same sex marriage ( after divorcing your 'cover up' wife), fathering an adopted child alongside your Husband and attending the royal wedding with your Husband makes you a Gay Icon.

apart from my brother, MAB, and another good friend, I know NO gay man who likes decent music. maybe generalising, but i know a fair few gay men. i even had a phonecall from one friend asking why i defriended him on facebook...

I told him that after 12 months of putting up with gaga and britney related updates, when he made the comment that avrils new album 'would be in the top 10 of all time in the future' i knew we could no longer be cyber friends

I'm gay and I hate music like gaga and britney, my partner is a metal head and loves metallica, megadeth etc. Most of my gay mates have good taste in alternative music as well, so there you go... there's always stereotypes as well, even in straight culture.

This was great tonight, unbelievable how great his voice is considering he's 64. Played for just over 2.5 hours with only a minute or so break before the encore, I hope I have his energy when I'm his age. The two Croatian guys on cellos were great too, the whole band was unbelievable, Elton is a real class act. I've never seen so many drunk 50somethings in my life, it was hilarious. I guess that's what happens when you have free wine tasting... The support act was downright embarrassing though, essentially a shitty busker reading out his diary to everyone. He had one song where he must have groaned "you broke my heart" at least 45 times. His face looked like he wasn't sure if he wanted to cry or stop himself from crying but whatever he was doing he looked constipated as hell. Didn't come close to detracting from how incredible Elton was but it was an amusing little aside. I would have liked to see him at the Lyric Theatre but apparently I've already missed it. Oh well, next time. Hope Estate is a great venue
