The Cure confirmed for VividLIVE

The Cure has been added to the lineup of Vivid LIVE and even as a stunning bonus (as if a tour wasn’t already enough) they’ll be playing their first three albums live, in their entirety, in an extraordinary concert experience exclusively for Vivid LIVE.

The two performances will both feature all three albums, with two intervals and will be filmed for broadcast.

The announcement quotes Robert Smith declaring that “Vivid LIVE is an exceptional event, and we are very excited to be taking par. We have played a lot of memorable shows in Australia – we first performed here in 1980, and this will be our seventh trip – but it will be our first time onstage in the Sydney Opera House, and we want to do something unique to mark the occasion. Combining Cure members past and present in a live filmed interpretation of our first three albums feels to me like it should do the trick!”

The Cure “Reflections”
Three Imaginary Boys (1979)
The Cure Trio: Robert Smith (voice & guitar), Simon Gallup (bass), Jason Cooper (drums)

Seventeen Seconds (1980)
The Cure Quartet: Robert Smith (voice & guitar), Simon Gallup (bass), Jason Cooper (drums), Roger O’Donnell (keys)

Faith (1981)
The Cure Quintet: Robert Smith (voice & guitar), Simon Gallup (bass), Jason Cooper (drums), Roger O’Donnell (keys & percussion), Laurence Tolhurst (keys & percussion)

$100 WELL SPENT for the seats we got. Yeah I don't know what allocation of what seats there are and how many to what presale (tbh I kind of figured that the whole thing was sold out - ie i'd be pissed paying $100 as an insider and not getting tickets if there were still going to be some available, but I guess yeah they've still got some set aside for the modular presale or Thursday). All I know is that the Opera House is a small-ass venue for them and it was going to be bloodsport to get tix. Me and another guy bought at the same time in the office here, the slight difference in pushing send/receive (maybe 10-15s) meant the difference between row L and row R.

Yeah and the first 3 rows isn't even good seats, likely to have obstructions by cameras (shows are being filmed for dvd) and also too close to a high stage. You want to be at least 5 rows back I think...

Ahh well, still going to be an awesome concert

My cousin couldn't stop raving about how great the sound was, I wasn't quite as enthralled but it was still pretty good. The mixing was off at the start, vocal mixing was atrocious in the first song, but through no fault of the venue. It is one of the best venues in relation to sound in Sydney. It is the antithesis of the big top.

Every time I've sat in the Concert Hall of the SOH recently I've been between rows R and V. The first gig I went to I was a little disappointed thinking I was way back in Row V but it was actually excellent.

You're back at the point where the seats are raked up enough that you're at stage level so you don't have to look upwards and in fact have a good view of equipment and stuff on stage.

Anywhere in the front section of the SOH is essentially pretty close to the stage.

Yes it seems a little counter intuitive and I was surprised people were touting the quality of row ~T but I'm very happy with my tickets (rows R and L) and from what I can gather will have a better show than the $2500 row E tickets on sale above. At least I'd like to tell myself anyhows.

Sorry to any male cure obsessives out there, to balance it, most female cure fans are short and pudgy.

So there's still thirty five minutes to fill up!

The Cure will come on 10 minutes after the planned start time and 3 minutes after each interval? Introducing band members + any time inbetween songs taken up by fixing any equipment that needs fixing? Plus I reckon they might do a small encore of boys don't cry + couple others during that era that weren't on a specific album. Those are my guesses anyways. Can't wait for tonight! Last night was incredible. They ended up going for 3 hours 45 minutes with intervals included. I kept thinking "oh yeah they'll do a couple songs for the encore" then when they finished the first encore the roadies put down a second lot of set lists on the stage for the second encore. "Awesome!" I thought, wasn't expecting a second encore at all. Once they had said their goodbyes and then left the stage for the 4th time I thought "ok that's it" but then ANOTHER lot of lists was put down on the stage!
