The Cure to be added to VividLIVE?

Updates:
Vivid LIVE act Azari and Ill have announced on Twitter and Facebook that “Vivid LIVE acts including Azari & III, The Crystal Ark, Wu Lyf and Dom, Cut Copy, Tame Impala & now The Cure. +++”. However their tweet links back to this news story, so it’s not clear if they have the inside word or are just excited by the rumour.
The festival promoters have also responded to the rumour on Twitter with the note “We can’t confirm or deny the rumour about The Cure but we can share their music” and a link to the Cure’s Lovecats video. What a tease!
Vivid LIVE already boasts a damn fine lineup of acts including Bat For Lashes, Spiritualized and Odd Future, but if the rumours are to be believed there’ll soon be a ridiculously impressive late addition to the festival.
The rumour started appearing in music forums and on Twitter during the week, with comments on the Mess+Noise forums including “Just heard who’s playing the very secret show to be announced next week. jaw on floor”, “This seems to me to be the event that will take Vivid from being something that flies under most people’s radar to something that will be much more within the general public’s awareness. Big crowd pleaser” and “Kate Bush is a good guess, but this act has been much more constantly active for a fairly lengthy period of time” providing the best/most teasing clues. .
Vivid’s curator Stephen “Pav” Pavlovic fuelled the rumour by appearing on FBi Radio during the week and ending a set of songs by Vivid LIVE acts including Azari & III, The Crystal Ark, Wu Lyf and Dom with The Cure’s A Forest. A tip of the hat to Vivid LIVE star attraction Bat For Lashes’ cover of the tune – or a rumour baiting clue?
Our mates over at Mess+Noise certainly think it’s a clue – and ran a story yesterday claiming that The Cure “will reportedly be making a one-show-only stop in Sydney (sorry Melbourne) to film a DVD that covers the last couple years of the band.”
That tidbit of news/speculation has been picked up by the Cure fan site Chain of Flowers with the editor of the highly informative blog teasingly noting that “I’ve been trying to drop a few hints over the last week or so, to say that maybe we should all start paying close attention again, and maybe start getting excited. : )” and that “there will probably be word on who’s playing in the band, when the announcement is made. The real surprises are still to come.”
When asked if the show could feature the band’s 1981 album Faith in full – as a 30th anniversary celebration – the blog’s editor claims that idea is “thinking too small”. Chain of Flowers suggests that the Cure’s appearance at the festival in expected to be during “the middle part of the Festival… late May/early June” before noting that “Robert will have all of the details soon. Until then, no spoilers from me.”
So there’s a fair but of ‘evidence’ floating about and hopefully there’s an official announcement soon but for now here’s some vintage Cure from that 30 year old album Faith.
