The Grates homecoming tour
Fri 29th Apr, 2011 in Local News
When we last spoke to effervescent Grates front-woman Patience Hodgson she revealed that the band had “really been using America as a muse for our forthcoming album.” Well, that was nearly two years ago now and, after an extended stay living and breathing all things New York, The Grates are finally set to return to our shores armed with their new album Secret Rituals.
This is record number three from The Grates and the first since 2008’s Teeth Lost, Hearts Won, on which the band “flexed their creative muscles and took a few risks.” If their first single Turn Me On (which the band posted on its Facebook today) is anything to go by, it’s safe to say Hodgson and co have pushed the boundaries one again, creating a sound that is one part Brisbane three parts Brooklyn.
The Grates will hit the road this June for their first Australian tour since mid-2009, with a full band supporting John and Patience, who recently lost drummer Alana Skyring to a life of cake baking in the US and playing in Neil Finn’s new band Pajama Party with Finn his wife Sharon and Sean Donnelly.
The Grates tour dates:
Friday 17th June – Bakery Artrage, Perth
Saturday 18th June – Uni Bar, Adelaide [All Ages]
Friday 24th June – Oxford Art Factory, Sydney
Saturday 25th June – Corner Hotel, Melbourne
Friday 1st July – The Hi Fi, Brisbane
Tickets on sale Friday 6th May
