Splendour announce car passesfor 2011

Last year, one of the only downsides to Splendour In The Grass at Woodford was the traffic congestion that festival-goers faced trying to get in and out of the Woodfordia site. To ensure that this doesn’t happen again event organisers have spent the last 12 months coming up with a solution.

This year Splendour In the Grass will be issuing a set number of car passes for entry to the site each day. For event-camping ticketholders, this means that those who wish to bring a vehicle on site will need to pre-purchase a Campground Vehicle Entry Pass for a full refundable $30 fee, which includes all booking fees and charges.

The passes must be pre-purchased and will not be available on site. To receive the refund, your vehicle must be carrying a minimum of three people and you’ll get your full $30 back, onsite at the event, to spend however you wish.

For those who turn up with less than three people, rest assured the $30 will go to a good cause. Half the funds will go to The Australian Red Cross and the other will be allocated to Woodford community, specifically the Woodford State School P&C.

There will be a capped number of passes issued for vehicle entry each day and campers will need to nominate which day they will be arriving and purchase a Campground Vehicle Entry Pass for the appropriate day. If you arrive on Wednesday you’ll receive priority camping close to the festival entry, as will campers who arrive on public transport.

While there will be a large amount of passes available for each day, If by chance all Campground Vehicle Entry Passes for a particular day are already sold out, punters will have the choice of arriving on an alternative day or can use the Free Parking Station that will be serviced by the festival shuttle service to get them and their gear to and from the event.

Once parked in the camping area, all vehicles will have to remain stationary for the duration of the event, however, there will be shuttles operating to and from Woodford township, should campers need to get supplies.

To alleviate traffic congestion after the event, an additional exit point will be opened and the exit deadline will be extended to 5pm on Monday 1st August. A number of food stalls will remain open to cater for campers who leave later in the day on Monday.

PIMP YOUR RIDE

And to keep things in the Splendour spirit, the festival will be holding a competition for the best decorated car called My Car’s A Unicorn. What’s Yours?. There will be prizes handed out each day of the festival and one final people’s choice award.
