Soundwave Revolution to skipPerth?

The change to the Queens Birthday public holiday in Western Australia threatens to disrupt Soundwave Revolution’s touring plans.
The date of the Queen’s Birthday public holiday in Western Australian for 2011 has been moved to Friday 28 October to coincide with the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. This change threatens the planned Perth leg of the Soundwave Revolution tour, which had been scheduled for the original public holiday date – Monday 3 October.
This morning the festival’s promoter, AJ Maddah, announced on Twitter that “I need to now decide whether to skip Perth altogether and instead do a regional East Coast date, etc. The WA Gov has (with 5 months notice) moved the Oct long weekend. Between the distance, thieving operators, incompetent /bar managers, etc, it is already an uphill battle to bring SW to Perth.”
The planned Melbourne date – Friday 30th September – is not a public holiday or weekend, but Maddah says that ‘The deal is that Melbourne sells out regardless of what day it is on. Perth people have a different attitude.”
Maddah has also indicated that a regional East Coast date in Maitland, Port Maquarie, Byron Bay, Canberra or Hobart may be arranged to if a solution to the Perth issue can’t be found and has joked that “I suppose I could sue the WA Government…”
The Soundwave Revolution announcement scheduled for Thursday 28th April may be postponed while Maddah and the festival team decides what to do about Perth.
