Splendour in the Grass 2011lineup

It feels as though we’ve been hearing rumours about the 2011 Splendour in the Grass lineup since last year’s festival ended.

We uncovered a few leaks and solid rumours and there was plenty of speculation in the Unofficial Splendour forum, but now the official lineup for the three massive days of musical goodness that is Splendour is finally being released.

We could ramble on and tell you how amazing every act will be but we know you just want to get stuck into the important business of marvelling at the lineup. Let’s just say that as expected – it’s bigger than Ben Hur (with slightly less Charlton Heston and chariot racing) and is sure to provide a stack of highlights that will feature on countdowns of the best Splendour moments of all time. Of all time!

FasterLouder will again be backstage at the festival to bring you glorious portraits your favourite acts – check out the amazing photos from Splendour 2010.

I would think the festival would like to finish with the biggest act.
So logic would dictate they'd do with Coldplay or Kanye since they've both sold ten times the albums Pulp ever did.

^ Agreed

I'd be interested to know how many people at the festival would actually know more than 1 Pulp song. I reckon they'll put Pulp headlining on the first night so all the old people still have energy to say up late to watch them.

Could Pulp not sub-headline the Sunday?

Friday: The Mars Volta > Janes Addiction
Saturday: The Hives > Kanye
Sunday: Pulp > Coldplay

I'm almost certain that The Strokes would have outsold the Pixies, too; so what's your point?

At the end of the day, the Splendour organizers will find some way of screwing it up, probably by giving the Living End one of the headline spots.

Who will headline the other stages?

I think something like:

Friday: Jane's Addiction, The Mars Volta, PNAU
Saturday: Kanye West, Regina Spektor, DJ Shadow
Sunday: Coldplay, ?, ?

Mogwai could headline one night of the GW McClennan Tent.

All I was saying is that they were the Sunday headliner last year and probably aren't as popular as The Strokes with a Splendour crowd.

I saw them at the Enmore when they were touring Tyranasaurus Hives, but I'm not really sure how popular they are anymore.

The last tour they played The Metro. It was sold out and bursting at the seems. I'm pretty sure it was January 2009.

Absolutely fantastic show. I've never been much of a fan of their music, but they put on such a great show it is hard to resist.

I was seeing another band the night before and my friend was telling me that they were going to see The Hives at the Metro the next day and she wasn't that excited. When I asked her how it was she says it's the best concert she's ever been too.

The did a covers set gig i attended at the metro a couple of days after headlining (and absolutely SHREDDING) the Marion Bay Falls fest on New Year's Eve

the queue for tickets, which were not available presale, was hectic, but i got in... the show was good but not a patch on the insane festival set of all original material

when they played Tick Tick Boom live at the Metro as the only original song of the entire show as an encore the crowd went nuts and then they went off, i could have handles a lot more

they possibly did another show the night after that was already well and truly sold out in advance

i'd have thought they'd need a reasonably larger venue, but is the Hordern TOO big, not sure

The covers set was a Puma event. Would've loved to have seen them do that in Melbourne. Around that time they put of a promo video of performing a medely of covers which included White Stripes- Seven Antion Army, Saul Williams - List of Demands, and a handful of other songs. Is great.

the hives were touring a new album when they took a few weeks to sell out the metro,

so I'd think Hordern would be way too big. Enmore/Big Top would be more realistic.

However, Big Top is a shit hole with horrible sound, I think they'd be perfect at the UNSW Roundhouse

MorningAfterboy

MorningAfterboy said on the 26th Apr, 2011

I know it's been awhile since The Grates were here, but the last headlining show that they did was at the Forum, and they haven't been able to headline the Enmore since 2006. The Metro is much more realistic.

I'd also wager for TMV at the Enmore, as they didn't sell out the Hordern last time.

$1000 for 2 tix, $500 for flights (at least), $500 for food and drinks (at least), $200 for cabs, $300 for misc goods = $2.5k

My buddies are going from Bris though which is what's tempting me....
