The Get Up Kids tour

Emo trailblazers The Get Up Kids are coming to Australia to show off tunes from their new album There Are Rules, the first we have heard from the band since they reformed in 2008.

The Kansas City base five-piece were last on shores in early 2010, where they were a crowd favourite at Soundwave Festival and led our FasterLouder reviewer to declare: “[The Get Up Kids] are one band that should not be missed at any opportunity.”

When we spoke to singer Matthew Pryor about the reformation he made it clear that the band were back in the game for all the right reasons: “Now] it’s more like how it was when we first started playing, when we didn’t really worry about stuff so much, sonow we’re just excited to keep it light and have a good time. I mean it’s really about us enjoying one another’s company again.”

You can catch The Get Up Kids at the following shows this August:

Friday 5th August – The Hi Fi, Brisbane
Saturday 6th August – The Metro, Sydney
Sunday 7th August – Billboard, Melbourne
Tuesday 9th August – Fowlers Live, Adelaide

Tickets on sale 15th April at 9am.

It’s been over ten years since five kids from Kansas City, USA crashed the party of every punk-leaning teen worldwide with their breathless hooks and feverish intensity. In the blink of an eye THE GET UP KIDS were suddenly the darlings of the underground, cementing their significance with 1999′s seminal ‘Something To Write Home About’… “It’s original, powerful, aggressive, heartfelt… it is simply the greatest pop punk album ever written.” – Sputnik Music

After famously calling it a day in March 2005, THE GET UP KIDS stunned the music world in November 2008 by announcing their reformation. Their comeback album ‘There Are Rules’ challenges the foundations of a scene they helped build and it “truly stands out in the members’ collective catalogs as a completely unique entity, and one that should be viewed as nothing less than an absolutely stunning success” – Alternative Press.

Visiting Australian shores this August, one of the world’s most beloved bands THE GET UP KIDS will be bringing that same attitude and depth, but more adhesive and endearing than before, “All in all, they are one band that should not be missed at any opportunity.” – Faster Louder
