The Middle East tour

Townsville’s The Middle East will finally release their long-anticipated debut album I Want That You Are Always Happy next Friday (8th April) and have announced a national album launch tour in June.

The album features the songs Jesus Came To My Birthday Party, Black Death 1349 and Land of the Bloody Unknown and is described by the band’s tour announcement as “dark, melancholy, thick with melody and eventually instilled with hope”

The Middle East tour:

Friday 3rd June – Tanks Arts Centre, Cairns
Saturday 4th June – Riverway Arts Centre, Townsville
Wednesday 8th June – Fly by Night Club, Fremantle
Friday 10th June – The Governor Hindmarsh, Adelaide
Saturday 11th June – The Corner Hotel, Melbourne Sold out
Sunday 12th June – The Corner Hotel, Melbourne
Monday 13th June – Karova Lounge, Ballarat
Wednesday 15th June – Old Museum, Brisbane
Thursday 16th June – Joe’s Waterhole, Sunshine Coast
Friday 17th June – The Metro, Sydney
Sunday 19th June – Cambridge Hotel, Newcastle

from the 3 songs i've heard so far from the album i think it might be a little hit and miss

Jesus Came To My Birthday Party - lame indie rock by numbers. hoping there's nothing else like this on the record.
Black Death 1349 - a bit more like it! the middle east doing what they do best. a moving heart wrencher. a perfect way to start the album
Land of the Bloody Unknown - they do something here that a lot of their folksy peers struggle to do. that is work well with dynamics. this track ebbs and flows wonderfully throughout. and i really enjoy the aussie vibe.

is this their second album or their debut? because i know they self released a LP a few years back and then made their now famed EP. i would call this their debut but i remember people arguing about tv on the radio saying their self released OK Calculator was their true debut.

i meant the 8 track "album" they released in 2008 also called The Recordings of the Middle East. this was the tracklisting

then Spunk Records in 2009 released the first 5 tracks of that "album" as an EP.

personally im going to stick to calling I Want That.... their debut album.

I'm worried about the Metro show. I love the band and the venue, but I'm worried it might be too much of a Triple J crowd that will talk through the whole thing.
