Vivid LIVE 2011 officiallyannounced

The Vivid LIVE line-up has been officially announced at a ceremony held inside the Sydney Opera House this morning.

Modular boss and this year’s Vivid curator Stephen ‘Pav’ Pavlovic confirmed that all the bands listed in yesterday’s leak will be playing the festival and also revealed a few additional pieces of information.

The much hyped return of The Avalanches will be a DJ set not a live set; Spiritulized will perform their seminal album Ladies and Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space in its entirety with the help of 30 musicians, including a gospel choir and orchestra; And Bat For Lashes’ debut Australian performance will be exclusive to Sydney.

In addition to the musical performances there will be a free art installation in the Western Foyers by filmmaker Tom Kuntz ( the man behind that Old Spice commercial ) and LA based artists Lucky Dragons. And this year the festival has also created a pop-up bar called The Sony Lounge where people can hang out with the Vivid artists, watch DJ sets and just generally be cool.

And finally, for the first year ever triple j will be broadcasting a daily Vivid LIVE show with the Belgium brothers behind 2manydjs and Radio Soulwax.

Surely it is not just Dexter DJing.

Dexter ain't part of the Avalanches anymore as far as I know.

And MAB - those clips are over 10 years old... when the make up of the 'group' was completely different.

It'll be a Brains style DJ set like they played used to play at festivals (Laneway/Meredith etc)

So what do you guys think you're doing in regards to Premium/A/B seating?

Saving 20 bucks is sort of worth having a slightly worse seat. But paying an additional 10 bucks is surely worth having a slightly better seat. So it seems I'm choosing between B and Premium. Eyyek.

OFWGKTA isn't seated. It's in the Studio, which has different kinds of seating depending on the event. In some instances - i.e. this one - it can have none at all.

"We're bringing a string quartet with us so I'm going to do some special one off string and voice numbers and there also might be a few little surprises in there, perhaps a couple of new ones. So it's definitely an exclusive thing because I haven't done that in England or anywhere else."

"But I'd love to do some more so I think we're going to do this (then) head back home and hopefully when the record comes out at the end of this year or next year, I'm definitely factoring in an Australian tour. So I will be back if you don't see us this time."

Yeah, I'd probably need the other 6 weeks down there to recover from the journey. The walking will eliminate petrol costs which is a plus. I can imagine getting a few good nights' shut-eye on the streets Cabramatta or Redfern... that will eliminate accommodation costs. As far as food and drink goes, I can raid the leftovers from the refuse piles of Chinese restaurants. I think I've planned my trip perfectly! :p
