2011 APRA professionaldevelopment award winners

The Middle East’s Rohin Jones, Catherine Kelleher (aka Catcall ), Zoe Randell of Luluc and Brendon Boney from Microwave Jenny are among the winners of the Australasian Performing Right Association’s bi-annual professional development award.

Whittling down a pool of more than 2500 applicants, the awards were are handed out to eight Australian songwriters and composers across the categories of Popular Contempory (3 x winners), Film & Television, Classical, Jazz, Indigenous And Country music with each winner receiving a cash prize of $10,000, a full day of studio time, and more to help their careers.

Speaking to APRA after the announcement The Middle East’s Rohin Jones said, “The APRA PDA will do so much – I’ve been trying to get a studio together to do some more home recordings and I think I have most of what I need for the studio now because of the award. And I can kinda pay myself to record for the rest of the year. It’s a really sweet prize and will allow me to keep writing music.”
