Gillard gives Obama Aussiemusic

As a parting gift on her current trip to the United States Julia Gillard has presented President Barack Obama with an ipod full of Australian tunes, and it seems her musical taste has improved since she revealed her personal playlist in the election campaign last year.

You will be happy to know that Obama and Michelle will be rocking out to the sounds of Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Dan Sultan and Dan Kelly & The Alpha Males, all of who have one track each included on the list.

Sadly The Drones missed out on an inclusion and Nick Cave only received one song ( Where The Wild Rose’s Grow was attributed to Kylie Minogue ) , while Bernard Fanning had his entire solo album Tea & Sympathy included.

Despite being a self-confessed fan our flame-haired PM failed to include one Cold Chisel song, although oddly every track from Jimmy Barnes’ 2009 cover album Rythm and Blues made the cut, along with two of Ian Moss’ solo tracks and a cover of Chisel classic Bow River by Troy Casar Dalley.

The Pres will also get a taste of Aussie hip-hop with Hilltop Hoods and The Herd both getting a look in. And while Australian Rock Idol’s Men At Work missed out, contestants of Australian Idol Guy Sebastian and Jessica Mauboy did scrape through with a couple of tunes, albeit mostly covers.

Notable absences include TISM’s (He’ll Never Be An) Ol’ Man River and The Vaughans Who Farted.
