Rename the ANU Bar

When it comes to the public servant watering hole Uni Pub and the student intoxication destination ANU Bar, people often get confused. So says ANU Union Chair Ben Duggan anyway, and with this in mind he’s set out to change not only ANU Bar’s name, but also its culture.

Following the revamp of the bar’s décor, the renaming will usher in a new era for the bar, transforming it from a place for students to have a beer between lectures to a social hotspot – a place for people to meet up, eat, drink and catch more live music.

The name for the bar is still being debated, with the names of important people being tossed around. “ANU has a history of incredible graduates and professors,” says Duggan. “It would be fitting to name the student bar after one of these figures.” 


Duggan hopes to procure student artwork from the ANU art school to display around the pub. This plus many other changes prove that it’s time to say goodbye to the grungy, dark ANU Bar of old.
