Splendour 2011 dates and venuerule out Arcade Fire

Following on from the success of last year’s relocation, Splendour In The Grass have confirmed that the 2011 event will once again take place at the beautiful Woodfordia site in Woodford, Queensland. All the action will happen across three days, from Friday July 29th to Sunday July 31st.

There was hope that Splendour may return home to Byron Bay this year, however the promoter’s application to hold the event at the new Yelgun site in the North Byron Parklands is still under review by the NSW Department of Planning.

Line-up speculation heated up this week with the announcement of Fuji Rock and Summer Sonic Festivals, the former of which takes place on the exact weekend as Splendour In The Grass 2011. Some of the bands considered as possibilities include Coldplay, Arctic Monkeys and Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

Unfortunately, despite a recent petition to get the Arcade Fire to Australia this year, the announcement of these dates does seem to rule out the band who will be supporting U2 in Canada on Saturday 30th July.

Also ruled out are Blondie, Laura Marling, Eliza Doolittle, Fenech-Soler and Frankie & The Heartstrings all of who will be playing Camp Bestival on those dates, as well as Girl Talk who will be playing the Wanderlust Festival in the US and The Cribs, Young Knives and Echo & The Bunnymen who will be at the Kendal Calling festival in England’s Lake District.
