Foo Fighters coming toAustralia

On Thursday March 24th the Foo Fighters will play a one-off show at a secret location on Sydney Harbour. The gig will see the band play all the tracks from their forthcoming album Wasting Light as well as a handful of Foos classics.

Scheduled to be held at sunset , the special performance will mark the first time tracks from Wasting Light have been televised anywhere in the world and will be broadcast on Channel V and Triple M on Saturday 2nd April at 11am.

If you are just dying to see NME’s Godlike Genius in the flesh, the only way you will get entry to show is through winning tickets on either Channel V or Triple M.

Sydney Harbour has been home to quite a few ‘secret shows’ over the years, including Green Day and Midnight Oil who performed sets televised by Channel V on Goat Island, making it the perfect location (along with ATP’s home on Cockatoo Island ) for the upcoming gig.

On the Foo Fighters twitter there's a post saying 'oh btw, Sydney we're coming for you!!!' And then something about a huge announcement on the channel V facebook page (typing from phone so don't know details).

For the love of God please be playing a show :D

Yeah, I'd prefer it if they stuck to arenas. U2 was terrible anyway, but it was only made worse by the awful sound and hollow atmosphere of ANZ Stadium.

i really hope foo fighters play indoor arenas. if they choose to play football stadiums i might think twice before buying tickets simply because the sound at both pearl jam and U2 were terrible and i find that outdoor shows just lack the atmosphere of indoor shows.

the best thing about the last few years of foo fighters is theyve been really good at getting their songs into Rock Band, including their older stuff, and most of their stuff is really fun, and really hard, to complete in the game, which is the perfect combination.

If they do arena shows, they need to dispense with the catwalk and mini-stage. I'm very over these acts sacrificing 50% of the gen admission/standing area for shows.

pretty sure they did 2 nights at Acer last time so if anything, if this album does well i wouldn't be surprised to see them play football stadiums. but a series of arena shows seems most likely.

MOPT have told the Melbourne A-League teams they can't have Bubbledome in Dec 2011.

I think Bubbledome could be a great venue for a big Foos show.

This tour is most likely to be a Frontier Touring tour as they have toured them here in the past.

I'd say that would point heavily towards this being an arena tour (potentially multiple nights) rather than a stadium tour as Gudinski doesn't really have a track record of putting on stadium shows.

You're pretty much looking at a Michael Chugg tour for it to be a stadium show for a current rock band.

I'd be much more excited by Dave Grohl solo performing hits from all throughout his career and various projects than Foo Fighters. Foo Fighters are good, but they are easily the least amazing thing he's ever done.

I'm hoping they'll play the same kind of set they've been playing at their other secret shows, which is the entire new album, followed by about 20 old tracks including a few rare ones. That would be about 2 and a half hours I think.

Anyone know how long they played last night in Perth?

The promoter and venues billed them as 2.5hrs. Setlist.fm lists 23 songs last night. Should we be expecting lots of extended guitar solos, or a lengthy break between the main set and encore?

Was sincerely hoping, when I saw the 2.5hr references, that we'd be getting some epic shows like the lucky b@stards got at Cockatoo Island, Manning, Brisbane, and NZ ("lucky" might not be the right term for those last two names, but they still got amazing setlists).

* massively unnecessary extended versions of each and every songs? Check
* predictable banter? Check
* staged catwalk runs? Check
* Stacked Actors guitar duel between Grohl and Shiflett? Check

This was basically the Echoes, Silence, Patience, Grace tour at a bigger venue with a few new songs.

22 songs in 2.5 hours, not good enough, IMO. Stop filling the show with so much w@nkery!!!!!!!!!!!

Thumbs up for closing the show with the full band version of Everlong.

Tenacious D were awesome.
Foo Fighters were quality but I wish they'd have played more songs off the new album.

Contrary to my feelings about the record, live most of the new songs are fucking crackers.

I just feel it was really only Bridge Burning, Rope, White Limo and I Should Have Known that captured the same magic on record.

DG did lots of unnecessary screaming between songs early on, then when White Limo was played, it was a little underwhealming as his voice was a bit shot.
This is a call needs to be changed to I'll stick around as well...

Sh!tloads of bogans where we were standing, in front of Shiflett. Was surprised (but maybe I shouldn't be) how many bogans were singing along to the D's set.

Would've loved more of Wasting Light at the Friday show. A seriously strong album, but they insisted on littering the live show with In Your Honor and One By One rubbish. We've already seen you tour those mediocre records, Dave, give us the good stuff!

Since never buying a Foo Fighters CD since COLOUR AND THE SHAPE. I enjoyed the gig. Yes, they did over play some songs but i was able to go to the toilet and get a drink from the bar without missing the next song.

Did I mention I got to sing with Pink Eyes during "Running On Nothing"?

Oh yeah I did. I even knew the words and got a second chance at the mic.
