George Clinton and LeonRussell added to Bluesfestlineup

Back in November last year the first announcement of Bluesfest lineup was released featuring a trinity of legends – Bob Dylan, B.B. King and Elvis Costello – plus Ben Harper, Micheal Franti, Mavis Staples and the Blind Boys of Alabama.

We were mightily impressed, but the festival’s promoter Peter Noble scoffed telling FasterLouder“ That’s only the first announcement! And the second announcement so far is just as good as the first.”

It seemed too good to be true… then the festival casually added a second round of acts including Grace Jones, Jethro Tull, ZZ Top, John Legend, Toots & the Maytals, Funky Meters, Irma Thomas and Booker T. For most festivals that would be more than a fair share of legendary acts, but not for Bluesfest.

The third announcement of acts again delivers the goods, with 2011 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Leon Russell visiting for his first Australian tour and George Clinton and his Parliament/Funkadelic madmen (all 32 of them!) performing their insane three hour show.

The additions also include the first Australian tour for Buffy Sainte-Marie since the 1970s, and return visits from Imogen Heap and Eli Paperboy Reed. And apparently there are still nearly 25 artists yet to be announced. Scheech!

The third Bluesfest announcement:

Leon Russell
George Clinton (Parliament/Funkadelic)
Luciano and the Jah Messenjah Band
Imogen Heap
Buffy Sainte-Marie
Ernest Ranglin
Raul Malo
Michelle Shocked
Peter Rowan & The Blue Grass Band
Public Opinion Afro Orchestra
Eli Paperboy Reed
The Bamboos
The Mad Bastards
Warrior King
The Hands
Bobby Alu
Hussy Hicks
