LOOKING FOR RADIOHEAD’S 2012 AUSTRALIAN TOUR DATES? – LOOK HERE

“Cogratulations (sic) Australia. Radiohead has targeted you for their next tour. It’s a lock.”

So says, Jim Quick, the author of How to Dismantle an Atomic Tour…True Confessions of an Infamous Rock ‘n’ Roll Bootlegger.

There’s always a Radiohead tour rumour – just last week they were named at the top of a ‘leaked’ Splendour lineup dismissed by the festival as “way wrong” – but when the source is the author of a memoir about spending two decades on the road blagging his way backstage at Grateful Dead, Phish, U2 and Radiohead gigs, the story has a tiny bit more credibility. And even if there’s even just a tiny chance that Radiohead will tour, we get pretty damn excited!

Quick is a self described “groupie, party crasher, entrepreneur, philosopher and pirate with a Mensa-qualifying I.Q” who has spent two decades following bands across the globe most of it apparently “financed by questionable means”. According to his website, he has “sold band-inspired and bootlegged t-shirts, stealth-recorded concerts, and perfected the art of forgery to access concert venues with fake security passes” – impressive stuff, but is the con artist conning us with this tour rumour?

i hate the hordern as a venue, but i'm inclined to think that's where it would be.

on another note, someone came dressed as radiohead to my 21st, quite a few years ago. cardboard box painted as a boombox, with a little hole cut out for their head. i hope to one day replicate it.

Heh. I was joking. They played two shows at the Sydney Entertainment Centre in 2004.

They'd play Ent Cent or more likely Acer Arena. I doubt a promoter would go for a stadium tour (although who knows? Chuggie was successful doing it for Pearl Jam at the end of '09).

If they come, its gotta be splendour, its the logical next step...Splendour keeps getting bigger, what better way to stick to the big boys (glasto, Lolla), than getting radiohead to headline your festival.

Acer Arena gets a lot of shit, but it's really not the worst venue I've been to. Good for big shows, and Radiohead would certainly be a big show if they'd ever bother to come over here.

But after the success of last year, they have to be cashed up surely. And just booking radiohead would allow them to sell tickets at exorbitant prices regardless of the rest of the lineup. Personally, Id rather see a lineup similair to last year, just full of quality bands. I for one can't find radiohead appealing. There just porn to every indie kid now. i don't know. if you can afford to buy a ticket in the front dance floor section then it's fine. have you ever had seated tickets there though? i once accompanied a pal who was reviewing something, and nosebleed does not even begin to describe it. i suppose they were the shittest of the shittest seats though.

i personally would very rarely want to buy seated tickets, but the standing prices at acer are often ridiculously expensive.

Actually, I had seats at the last three shows I went to there - Linkin Park, Muse and Metallica. The sound was rubbish for Dead Letter Circus and Biffy Clyro, who opened for LP and Muse respectively; but it was fine for the headlining acts.

You're also probably looking at playing to at least 200-250k people over the course of the tour to make it viable.

If Radiohead comes out it has to be a massive tour (unless it's part of a yet to be announced world tour in which case the scale could be smaller).

all i was told was that australia is targeted and a virtual lock during their next tour, and that splendour was not true. no dates. no venues. now, maybe the spelndour denial was just a put off. personally, i would think they would come before or after the northern hemisphere's summer months. in 2004, they played in april at several cities. i highly doubt they do a "one off" festival unless they have some new carbon footprint ideas (like only bringing only necessary gear and borrowing a bunch of lights and shit). my gut says sooner or much later. either way, it's early 2011 (right now). if they release lp8 and don't implode at the same time ("fuck it, here's our last album, goodbye"), i'd expect a year and half of touring. australia will be a beneficiary according to my source whom i fully believe. congratulations (with an n). :)

thats actually a very valid point. if you look at the venues they played on the in rainbows tour they were mainly unconventional or outdoors with a few exceptions. a bulk of their american tour was held in amphitheatres. then in london instead of doing wembley stadium they chose to do victoria park and in LA they did the hollywood bowl instead of staples center.

the same inside source that gave me radiohead targeting australia tells me they have no dates set for 2011. he says australia is still a lock for the next tour, but that the band is in no hurry to hit the road. they may release new material before touring.

radiohead don't know how to do proper world tours... and even if they do eventually come here, they'll more than likely just play sydney & melbourne and then label it an "australian tour" and not come back for another ten years! f*cking shits me when bands do that... weezer are an even bigger culprit.. i think i'll go and plant a few trees whilst i'm waiting, should have a forest once they do tour!

however much i would love to, i will not ever see radiohead again (especially in oz where tix are so damn overpriced!)... those two nights were amazing and will never be topped...
