Groovin' The Moo 2011 line-up

Last year Groovin’ The Moo tore around regional Australia with such force our Maitland reviewer declared it “the best festival in terms of efficiency, sound, line-up and atmosphere that I’ve ever attended.”

The festival returns again in 2011, with five huge stops and one hell of a line-up. Boasting an inticing mix of locals and internationals this year’s bill includes UK party-starters The Go! Team in their first appearance down under since 2007; the stupendously talented UNKLE, Cut Copy, The Wombats and 90s hip-hop legends House Of Pain (yes they of Jump Around fame).

FasterLouder presents (in alphabetical order) the 2011 Groovin’ The Moo line-up

Lineup is out tomorrow morning, predictions?

I am thinking Arcade Fire, Bright Eyes and the Dandy Warhols. Maybe with some Living End and Angus & Julia Stone thrown in for good measure.

What on earth gives you the idea that Bright Eyes and Arcade Fire will play in hick towns?

The Wombats will probably be the biggest drawcard of GTM.

Is The Decemberists too much too ask? I was almost tempted to buy a Big Day Out ticket last year to see them, untill I saw they were playing a pissweak 1/2 hour set (plus they have a new album).

Also, I'm ok with the usual A&G Stone, AvS, oz hip-hop types etc. playing, since it means more of my douche mates will come along for the road trip...as long as theres some rockin internationals, that is.

i've been wondering for a few days who might be the international headliners at groovin the moo and i had completely forgotten about The Wombats. i really can't imagine then getting a headliner bigger than the Wombats.

i'm thinking it will be an aussie act dominated bill topped by the Living End.

as said in other thread, of the 17 acts they have, 8 are to be international. soooo it'll be more then just some hick music festival

well they managed to do a fairly good job last time. but i really cant see them doing better than The Wombats in terms of internationals. maybe band of horses?

MilkySheep

MilkySheep said on the 1st Feb, 2011

You guys seem to be forgetting that they got Vampire Weekend last year. VW are a massive band and considering this year is only going to be bigger and more improved (they are going to better use the spaces), a band like Arcade Fire definitely isn't out of the question. I think you'll find that they are no bigger than VW in Australia.

and AF end their american tour on the 25th of april and dont start their european tour until the 17th of june. GTM goes from 30th april to 14th may. i won't completely rule them out i just think that AF can do better than GTM ie Splendour!

I think Arcade Fire are a lot bigger.

They have at least 3 more members than Vampire Weekend.

daveyac8881

daveyac8881 said on the 1st Feb, 2011

Surprisingly, yes

I think VW are bigger in Aus than Arcade Fire. Pretty much everyone knows who Vampire Weekend is, 14 year olds have their first concert at Vampire Weekend. Most Arcade Fire fans tend to be at least some extent of music nerd, even at least a mild one. The average random would have heard A-Punk and Cousins, whereas the average random probably won't know any Arcade Fire, I don't think they get any commercial airplay although I might be wrong

crob

crob said on the 1st Feb, 2011

in its first week the suburbs album sold more than 156,000 copies — some 30,000 more than vampire weekend managed to move in their first week.... on top that funeral and neon bible are amazing albums

"@thedrumsforever: australia! there will be an announcement later today that might be of some interest to you."

well it looks like the drums are playing for sure, which is pretty awesome.

i think af would be way more suited to splendour. also, they're playing new orleans jazz festival on may 6 which is right in the middle of gtm touring so that kind of rules them out as well.

RE from groovin the moo: Thanks for getting in touch. We've spent a lot of time over the past 6 months developing plans to make sure we don't repeat the problems we encountered with the entrance at Bendigo in 2010. As a result, gates will open an hour earlier at 10:30am, there will be a wider front gate access with extra entrance lanes and more security to manage the audience entering into the venue. We have also re-worked the site so there will be better flow in and around the venue with better access to food and toilets.

We appreciate your concern and hope you decide to come again this year.

Many thanks.
