Janelle Monae cancels GoodVibrations tour

Rising pop superstar Janelle Monae, who dropped the mightily impressive album The ArchAndroid last year, seems will miss her scheduled Good Vibrations sets after accepting an invitation to perform at the Grammy Awards ceremony.

Monae broke the news, and the hearts of her Australian fans, by confirming the news via Twitter: “:-D !’m Very thankful to be performing at The 2011 Grammy Awards!!!!” She’ll join Eminem, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Arcade Fire, and fellow Good Vibrations cancellation Cee-Lo Green on stage at the awards.

The festival has issued a statement to confirm the news:
“On behalf of Jam Music, we can confirm that Janelle Monáe has just been added to the line up to perform at the Grammy awards on February 13th. This last minute announcement from the Recording Academy unfortunately means that Janelle Monáe will no longer be able to appear at the 2011 Good Vibrations Festival as planned.”

Update: Janelle Monae has made an announcement on Twitter: “Rescheduling our Australian dates. Will keep u posted. be there soon! Thanks for being so patient & understanding. Love u guys. Xx”

Good Vibrations festival dates:
Saturday 12th February – Centennial Park, Sydney
Sunday 13th February – The Nursery, Flemington Racecourse, Melbourne
Saturday 19th February – Parklands Showgrounds, Gold Coast
Sunday 20th February – Claremont Showground, Perth

The best way to make up for the loss of Cee-Lo and Janelle Monae would be to add Mos Def, if he keeps postponing the tour the dates should align perfectly.

As long as Faithless, Ludacris and Kelis don't pull out I'm a happy man. Sasha, Fake Blood, Rusko and Friendly Fires are enough for a good day. Although knowing good Vibes they'll probably clash everyone and I'll only be able to see two of those people

But I started checking out Distant Relatives and Welcome to Jamrock (one of Damian's albums). Welcome to Jamrock rocks! And I don't know what to think of Distant Relatives, it has some cool tracks, but it's a bit cheesey at times.

Faithless over Phoenix is an easy decision. Saw both bands twice last year. Phoenix seem like a really weak closing act for a festival. They're good, but they do not have any wow-factor.

Phoenix were tied with Mumford and Sons for my fave live act of last year.

Faithless were tied with Orbital for my favourite live act last year, so there's little chance of us agreeing on anything musical, ever. :p

Phoenix are very good, I'll give you that.

Phoenix are infinitely better than Mumford and Sons. In the words of the great Mark E Smith, Mumford and Suns are just 'a bunch of retarded Irish folk singers'. :p

Although I really love a lot of Phoenix's studio stuff, I would choose Faithless to see live as well.
