Gareth Liddiard solo tour

When FasterLouder spoke to Gareth Liddiard about his debut solo album Strange Tourist last November, the Drones frontman wasn’t anticipating a positive reaction to the record: “[critics will ] say something like ‘teenaged poetry’ or they’ll say ‘claustrophobically depressing’ or ‘self indulgent’… I’m sure they’ll think of shit I couldn’t think of… and I’ll be like whatever ‘fair enough’. It’s a pretty gnarly kinda record so you can’t blame anybody; no one has to like it I don’t care. I like it, that’s the reward for me.”
How wrong he was. Since releasing Strange Tourist, Liddiard has garnered rave reviews from critics and fans alike. He has also proved his chops live as a solo artist, with an FL reviewer noting at his Melbourne album launch “there is a rough and rugged beauty in these songs that can’t be found anywhere else in Australia right now. Just being in the same room feels very special indeed.”
If you missed out on his short run of shows last year, you’ll be pleased to know that Liddiard is hitting the road again in March and taking Dan Kelly along for the ride. With his own unique brand of story-telling and armed with songs from his new record ( one FL’s top 10 albums of last year) Kelly is sure to be the perfect Costello to Liddiard’s Abbott.
