The Black Keys pull out of BigDay Out

The Big Day Out promoters have announced that The Black Keys will be unable to perform on any of the 2011 Big Day Out events in Australia or New Zealand due to exhaustion.

A statement from the band has been posted as to explain the change to the lineup:

“The Black Keys are sorry to announce the cancellation of the New Zealand and Australian tour including all appearances at the Big Day Out touring festival as well as a portion of the European tour in March. An arduous year of touring and promotion has drained the band and necessitated time off.

Dan and Patrick wish to thank all of you who have shown such incredible support since the release of ‘Brothers’ and have helped make the album a success.”

Paul Dempsey has been announced as a replacement on the bill and will be reforming his band especially for the tour.

For those who purchased through Ticketek...

PLEASE NOTE: TOUR CANCELLATION

It is with incredible regret that Love Police and Billions Australia bring the bad news that THE BLACK KEYS will not be heading to Australia and New Zealand for their shows scheduled to begin in Wellington on Thursday. The band will also not be performing at any Big Day Out festivals throughout both countries.

This from the band's management;

"The Black Keys are sorry to announce the cancellation of the New Zealand and Australian tour including all appearances at the Big Day Out touring festival as well as a portion of the European tour in March. An arduous year of touring and promotion has drained the band and necessitated time off.
