Fantômas Return To FreakYou Out

Fantômas are a bit of an acquired taste. The lineup - consisting of Mike Patton (Mr Bungle, Faith No More), Buzz Osborne (The Melvins), Trevor Dunn (Mr Bungle) and Dave Lombardo (Slayer) – gains some pretty intense attention from rabid fans. And given the wide-ranging nature of their albums – their initial self-titled release featured a mix of ambient horror and blasting attack, while their most albums have been soundtrackesque and cartoonish, in turn – the following indicates that there’s something special going on in the Fantômas ranks. Special and… slightly evil.

Australians will once more get a chance to see the full-throttle craziness that is Fantômas in action when the band return to play Australian gigs in September. The band’s energy onstage is legendary, as you’d expect from a supergroup named after a criminal antihero from pre-WWI crime novels. Audience assumptions about what is music – and even what the band sounds like – should be checked at the door, along with the ability to be easily shocked.

Fantômas will be like nothing you’ve experienced.
