As we look back at the best albums and biggest controversies of 2010, triple j has declared the phone lines officially open for Hottest 100 voting.

Over its 20 year history the Hottest 100 has become the soundtrack to many an Australia day BBQ, and is always quick to stir up a bit of controversy in the FL forums. Last year the internet was all a-twitter when the winner was leaked a month early, and in previous year winners such as King OF Leon and Muse have caused their fair share of debate as well.

You have until January 16th to have your say and just for voting could go into the draw to win a Golden Ticket that will give you access to every gig jjj presents in 2011.

Yeah their life is generally limited to 10 years or less. That's the biggest Issue. But they are brilliant dogs. Not suited to living in WA though, The heat puts too much stress on their heart.

yeah it's too cruel I think. The bernard struggles a bit in the qld heat - but goes to the beach each weekend and she loves it. also gets a clip so she's not so hot. if only you could shrink her to half her size, she'd be the perfect dog!

All I know about the Hottest 100 is that it's going to be a great day of music, mates and ice cold beverages.

There will be some winners and some losers for the day but none the less it looks like the winner won't be leaked early this year.

I think some heads would have rolled over that incident last year.

Other than Runaway and Monster I don't think Kanye will do that well. He really hasn't been backing up any of his singles except Runaway, which I would argue is the weakest song on the record.

A video for All of the Lights won't even be out until next week.

I thought 'On Melancholy Hill' was one of the more bland tracks from 'Plastic Beach', 'Welcome to the World of the Plastic Beach' was amazing though. Definitely agree with FlyLo, Foals and Die Antwoord too.

The thing that shits me most is that Alex describes everything as amazing (I think it's Alex anyway).

Even stuff that is really not even remotely close to amazing.

Toms 21st at Billboards was a blast last year. Even though Lisa Mitchell proved once and for all that she couldn't DJ with a few massive train wrecks.

röyksopp is amazing at the best of times. this remix is sensational.

whilst i love that also, i think a good percentage of the votes for that would've been from fans of the original song instead as well though when you look at the other top 10 songs of that year. even though clocks made the hottest 100 the year before (in the 60's from memory), it had only just come out the song's popularity, particularly as a single didn't really occur until dec-march and well into 2003, so a lot of people would've just voted for that as it was the only option they had for the song.

i'm sure there was another similar case in recent years of a remix/cover that did better than the original for the same reasons, but it's not coming to mind, and i can't be bothered flicking through the results atm. a similar example though would be that of 'sweet disposition' which was released late in 2008, didn't take off till the summer, and then got much bigger the next year. didn't make the 100 for 2008 because of it though, and wasn't eligble for 2009, but it it had of been it would've been a certainty for top 2 based on how voting goes these days.

In terms of a genuine smokey for #1, 'Radioactive' would have to be the front runner, ignoring the fact it has been mentioned as a good chance for Top 10.

Good Point

Remember that Adam Spencer was cranking it on his show. So it did get a bootload of Airplay as the remix. If I remember correctly that remix wasn't commercially available and was on a white label Vinyl that Adam Spencer gave away as part of a competition.

On your logic (which is sound) the big song that missed out was Presets - My People in 2008. As it was released in late 2007, it only got ridiculous radio traction in 2008 and was excluded because of it's feature the previous year.

I do remember that that year I was really annoyed, because Im certain that on the list, it did NOT mention that it was the remix, but just the song. Hell I voted for it, because when I saw it, I assumed it was the original, and it was one of my favourite songs. Would not have voted for it if I'd known it was the remix...

Also, if it's not Tom And Alex doing 10-1, it'll be The Doctor with someone else, possibly Zan Rowe or Kingsmill. Hoping for Tom and Alex...
