Grace Jones joins Bluesfest

If you didn’t think the 2011 Bluesfest line-up could possibly get any bigger, then how wrong you were. Joining the likes of Bob Dylan, BB King and ZZ Top come April is the queen of extravagance Ms Grace Jones.

The 80s pop diva will be bringing her musical tour de force to the mainstage at Byron Bay next year, marking the first time she has landed on our shores since strutting her stuff at Sydney Festival at the start of 2009.

The last time she was here Jones floored her devoted audiences leading one FL review to declare: “There are no words to describe how it feels to have seen a Grace Jones show. Simply, this night may well go down in folklore: the most perfect combination of stage theatrics, personality and professionalism ever.”

Bluesfest is certainly exercising the value of the Aussie dollar by shopping overseas.

If Gerry Harvey finds out he'd be outraged.

How does the Bluesfest compare to Splendour?

it is a great festival.

you get nice long sets.

few less bells and whistles i.e lighting etc.

a real emphasis on music and the different styles.

I think this may be my first Bluesfest but I imagine that the punters go more for the music and not so much on the getting high on pills and whizz...

i find that you go any way you please - you can party until you drop - or be mellow and relax - there are plenty of people doing both.

some of the tents are rocking like rave if you catch the right act - yet you can happly perch and relax to another.

i go to stacks of festivals and this is my favourite.

i have been going for years and find that if you get off the main stage you come accross some sensational finds.

if you can - go for the 5 days as it will allow you to really immerse yourself in the experience and walk away with some classic live music memories.

couldn't be bothered searching for original thread on Bluesfest, but Byron council has approved an extra day to secure Dylan. Goes to show what a festival can achieve with the right acts ...
