Big Day Out 2011 2nd line-up

A handful of very fine additions have been made to the mammoth 2011 Big Day Out line-up, including all the special guests planned for next year’s psychedelic-themed Lilyworld.

Joining the likes of Rammstein, Tool and Primal Scream for Australia’s biggest traveling festival in 2011 are:

Sia
The Vines
The Greenhornes
Washington
Matt & Kim
Black Milk
DJ Anna Lunoe

The triple j unearthed winners:

Gold Coast – Ball Park Music
Sydney #1 – We Say Bamboulee
Sydney #2 – Lanie Lane
Melbourne – Eagle and the Worm
Adelaide – Pagen Elypsis
Perth – Split Seconds

And if you are a fan of all things weird and wonderful, then there is no doubt you will be dropping past the famed Lilyworld. Next year’s Lilyworld will be celebrating all things psychedelic including nude arse painting workshops, readings, group hugs and games of communal semi nude twister.

But there will be more than nudity in the Lillyworld next year. The following artists will also be making appearances:

Barbarion
V Dentatas

Last month we chatted with BDO promoter Viv Lees about what went on behind the scenes of Australia’s biggest festival, and this week we followed up with a fascinating chat with his partner in crime Ken West who looked back on some of the BDOs best moments.

Then why not release everything all in one hit and tell people straight away, the same way that Splendour did it last year. Tell us who is playing and none of this bullshit tension raising that falls flat on its arse when releasing 6 more mediocre bands.

Of course. However, I don't think it really counts when playing those songs detracts from the quality of their setlist. I realise many people liked the album, but I still can't get my head around the fact that Muse are responsible for 'Undisclosed Desires'. The entire time it was on the radio I just thought it was another shitty Hot 40 band.

Not even 1 sideshow tempts me, first time this has ever happened...
My mates ragged on me about this but I was exactly the same haha! I consider myself to have a very diverse music taste but nothing excites me about the first and second lineups that I haven't seen before. Different tastes for different people, that's what makes music great I guess!

one thing i've noticed over the many years i have been attending b.d.o is the number of times they have put aussie bands all on at the same time on the timetable,(usually 3rd last act to play on the bill) then they put all the internationals on at the same time...really annoying!!
2nd lineup = shithouse
could be wrong but i reckon primal scream will headline the green stage the same time tool are playing...
b.d.o sideshows = primal scream,crystal castles = i'm there !!! then adealaide b.d.o c'mon summer !!

i bought my family's tickets on the basis of the first announcement and the probability (based on the previous bdo's) that the second announcement would make the day awesome.

thank fuck for the first announcement, i say, because, the second adds, nett, one band to my family's day.

no surprise they're not selling out, 'cos this line-up is a defacto homebake plus a half dozen sub-standard int'l acts.

not a problem for my family, tbh, and the first announcement was already a bdo, but second announcement this year? crap.

as someone (many someone's!) have said, a festival is not about the top of the bill, but about maintaining a quality throughout the day, and, until now, i've always recommended bdo over all other festivals.

2011? maybe. if the timetable delivers a bdo, then expect me to defend it. if not, then bdo can expect $500 less next year!

and, finally, as an old-school bdo attendee (my first was in 1994), i can fully agree with all the comments regarding the mainstream aspect of the modern bdo.

however!

there are always bands on the bdo lineup you would never see otherwise.

so, swings and roundabouts?

bdo is still good, but 2011 second announcement is sub-standard.

oh, and nothing is screaming side-stage.

boiler room is also looking lite-on.

I can't see DLC on the main stage unless they open it. Angus & Julia would have to be late afternoon/early evening on the main stage, they are huge at the moment, In terms of Australian Headliner popularity it would go AJ Stone>John Butler>Grinderman>Washington, timetable will work accordingly
