Powderfinger: The FinalOdyssey

Powderfinger’s epic ‘Sunsets’ tour comes to a close this weekend as the band bows out with a final show at the Riverstage in Brisbane on Saturday 13th November

To pay tribute to the end of Powderfingering on Australian stages, Spicks and Specks’ Myf Warhurst will present Powderfinger: The Final Odyssey, a one-hour special will feature footage from the band’s ‘Sunsets’ tour, behind-the-scenes footage, highlights of the band’s career from the ABC archives and an exclusive intimate interview with Myf and the band.

Myf has been a fan since her radio days as a presenter on triple j and according to ABS “there really is no better person to take us on a journey through their significant career” at least it will be a million times better than 60 Minute’s cringe-worthy effort earlier this year

Powderfinger: The Final Odyssey screens tonight (Thursday 11th November) at 9.30pm on ABC1.

In about 2014, I'd like to see a Powderfinger, Crowded House and John Farnham triple bill - The "We Told You We Were Fucking Off" Tour.

I managed to see the 'Finger 5 times without ever actually going to see them.

how bad was bernard's voice in the recent live stuff they showed during the doco?

i don't hate them or anything but they're one annoying band there is absolutely nothing they won't do for a buck. no doubt a live album will be out in time for xmas and next year they'll keep it going with a vol. 2 of their best of (remember their first best of fingerprints which came out in '04 only covered the years 94-2000, ca-ching!). they're just milking the hell out of it now.

no doubt they'll reform in around 3-4 years time when bernard's second solo album doesn't go as well as his first one and those powderfinger cheques start drying up.

They would be the world's most stupid band if they didn't release a live CD from the tour in time for Christmas.

I disagree - I've met them all and had big chats with Bernard - they're the most genuine, down-to-earth fellas. They're not money hungry by any means. They live very simply - they're not flashy or greedy or worried about image. If they wanted to milk it, they'd keep performing, but they recognise that now their music isn't as strong as it used to be.

I love these guys, sad to see them go but it was definitely the right time. They've done their dash.

any word on whether it'll be CD as well as DVD? I dont watch music DVDs generally, but would buy on CD.

Think it's just a DVD - but all the gigs from the final tour are available on CD

you gotta expect some strain in bern's voice considering they did 34 shows in 3 months- they'd be doing 3 or 4 shows on consequtive days

also they may be looking to make money off the tour and merch but who wouldn't? also they're contracted for the best ofs and dvds. they signed up for them and now they have to do it. they're still a very down to earth and approachable band and it'll be sad to see them go

I back the notion that they're good dudes. One of the guitarists' daughter plays tennis out round the ferny hills area and my friend used to coach her and he is definitely a genuinely good dude. Bernard also went to school and is friends with one of my Dad's best mates so my Dad has met him a few times, they even shared Nandos together one day, pretty sweet guy.

I sat next to Bernard on a flight from Singapore - London. Chatted the whole way - he is super lovely. On arrival, he waited with me to find my snowboard which was impossible to find. Then I met the rest of the band and they gave me a lift to my sisters house in their mini-bus. Met up with them after their gig and had bevvies with them all. I can't sing their praises enough as to how friendly they were (no, not that kind of friendly ;)).
