Grinderman and Black Keys BDOsideshows

Following on from this morning’s super-sized announcement of Big Day Out sideshows, Grinderman and The Black Keys have secured their names on your ticket shopping list by adding a couple of extra shows to their January visit as well.

Less than two months ago Nick Cave and his twisted cohorts released Grinderman’s second album, a record which is “an evolution – deeper, darker, funnier and more disturbing than its predecessor.”

Slightly less twisted, but no less brilliant is The Black Keys’ new album Brothers, which sees the duo pushing their garage rock boundaries to create on the year’s strongest releases.

Grinderman Big Day Out sideshows:

Monday 17th January – The Palace, Melbourne
Friday 28th January – Enmore Theatre, Sydney

The Black Keys Big Day Out sideshows:

Tuesday 25th January – Tivoli, Brisbane
Saturday 29th January – Enmore, Sydney
Wednesday 2nd February – Palace Theatre, Melbourne

Will be in Melbourne when Grinderman play. Will hopefully make it along though hoping for around $50-$60. Dirty Three should open and this would be awesome.

bdo press release says "and the only place to see iggy & the stooges deliver it this summer is at big day out".

that seems pretty concrete to me. i wouldn't get your hopes up about a stooges sideshow.

seen the black keys 5 times now, the first 4 times were all brilliant, but the last time at luna park doing stuff off attack and release, it wasn't so great, terrible sound and the new material just didn't cut it live in my opinion.

curious at to how brothers material will go live tho so it could be number 6 back at the enmore

When I saw them in July, 8 of the 14 songs they played were from Brothers. It was excellent, but I don't have any previous live experience with them, so I don't know how it would compare to the times you've seen them.

Yeah, just the two of them. Testing the memory now, but I remember it being 'garagey' in patches throughout the set. It was really solid without coming off as just a bunch of well rehearsed songs, which is what I liked.

You could really go anywhere, sound fairly different to their other records.

personally i recommend Rubber Factory or Thickfreakness, but they are a fair bit "rougher" (in a good way me sez!) than Brothers.

Or start back at the start and get 'The Big Come Up"

I agree with the gibbon - I've seen the Black Keys a number of times. They're always impressive and always fun but the last time was fresh off the release of Attack and Release and I personally wasn't stoked on it's material. I guess the added production is hard to recreate LIVE as a two-piece. As much as I love Brothers, I'm kind of expecting the same.
