Kick out the Jams at Ya Ya's

*Ya-Ya’s – To get out*
To indulge/vent an urge that society does not approve of—this can be fighting, partying, drinking, having sex, smoking pot… whatever. It implies that there are other times when you’re a “respectable citizen” and repress the urge—full-time party-animals are not getting their ya-yas out because they always act that way.

As much as we’ve been lamenting the loss of small bars who host live music lately, and despite the success of the fascists and real estate agents in inspiring fear into the Northbridge-going public in recent years, we have another new bar in town! And it loves live music too. (At least it loves it on Thursday nights, and given enough interest from the punters, Ya Ya’s could learn to love live music every night of the week… but that’s a lobby for another time)

Ya Ya’s is the newest musical child of Alan Doherty, the guy that owns Beat Route Records on Barrack St. It’s across the road from the Northbridge Piazza, under Rise, where Impact Bar used to be. It had an opening night a couple of weeks ago, and has been running indie, alt. Brit and retro club nights on Fridays and Saturdays and they have just locked in Thursdays as original live music nights.

And so we come to the official launch night of Ya Ya’s indie band night Kick out the Jams on Thursday 11th November. The night has been specifically set up to break new talent, and the first talents on the rack will be Cygnet Committee, Mezzanine and The MDC which is something of a local supergroup, featuring members of Jack Action.

Because we know how important it is that these things get public support from day one, we’ve arranged to get FasterLouder readers in for free on opening night. Just click the ‘win’ tab at the top of the page find the Ya Ya’s comp and recommend a local band for an upcoming gig, and we’ll put you on the guest list.
