Golden Plains 2011 line-up

Somewhere between Yo La Tengo’s breathtaking performance in 2007 and Wooden Shjips’ ‘Boot raising’ cover of Neil Young’s Vampire Blues earlier this year, Golden Plains became Australia’s favourite festival. Sure she has won some awards along the way, but it has taken more than a couple of trophies to endear Meredith’s little sister to the masses.

Beyond the fantastical nature of the Super Natural Amphitheatre in autumn, the smaller crowds and its role as the bookend to Australia’s festival season, Golden Plains has continued to create line-ups that are exciting, intriguing and always a little bit surprising.

With that in mind, we present Golden Plains the Fifth.

The 2011 line-up is all class, and then some. There are not enough words to express our excitement at the announcement of Best Coast and Wavves on the same bill as Pulled Apart By Horses; how fast our hearts are beating at the idea of watching folk Goddess Joanna Newsom play the Amphitheatre at dusk; or just how much we want to light one up and pass it around when 70s psychedelic legends Hawkwind grace us with their presence at the Nolan farm – so instead we’ll salute Aunty M and hand this over to you.
