The second night of the iTunes Live: Aria Awards Concert Series and awards presentation has seen the recipients of three more genre award categories revealed – ‘Best Blues And Roots Album’, ‘Best Children’s Album’ and ‘Best Original Soundtrack/Cast/Show Album’.
At a show headlined by Washington – nominated for six ARIAs this year – and Boy & Bear, soul, roots rock ‘n’ roll singer / songwriter Dan Sultan beat some serious competition to take out the award for ‘Best Blues And Roots Album’ with his album Get Out While You Can.
Washington and Sultan were also part of the cast of the ‘Best Original Soundtrack/Cast/Show Album’ winner Before Too Long: Triple J’s Tribute to Paul Kelly, which also stars John Butler, Missy Higgins, Paul Dempsey and Dan Kelly. As FasterLouder’s reviewer summed the concert last November: “With 22 albums in his catalogue, this show was only ever going to be a taste of the man’s work, but what a sweet taste it was”.
The other category presented last night was the ‘Best Children’s Album’ gave regular winners The Wiggles their 9th ARIA award. The category is apparently for albums made for kids rather than by them – explaining the lack of a nomination for Short Stack.
