Primus and Melvins Sidewave

Primus fans the world over were thrown into fits of sporadic air-bass when the influential US rockers announced in April that after a five year hiatus they were back in business. It seemed only logical that the band would eventually be nabbed by one of our summer festivals, and Soundwave ended up being the perfect fit.

In addition to their performances at Soundwave the band has just announced that they will be playing a one-off Sidewave in Melbourne as well. Joining the trio on the night will be the Godfathers of Grunge themselves, the Melvins who released their 20th studio album The Bride Screamed Murder in July this year.

FasterLouder presents Primus and the Melvins:

amongst the many rants on aj's twitter, he as indicated that there will be very very few sidewaves outside of melbourne, wish they would hurry up and announce a qotsa sideshow already

Looks like I am going to hit up Sydney Soundwave.
I am not a festival person and I let the first couple go. I was convinced I didn't need to go this time either but I can't resist the need to see Primus and the Melvins as much as possible.

I will probably end up in Brisbane around that time anyway on my East Coast jaunt. Many more sideshows to plan yet, I am sure.

Fuck, tell me about it. When Soundwave was first started I thought there is no way I am going to Eastern Creek in peak summer for a festival.

Yet here I am planning, like Lawrence Of Arabia, to tackle the searing expanse.

I reckon they will play Sydney but I don't know if it will be with the Melvins.

Did you take your son to see Claypool last year? They were great shows.

As much as i'd love a headlining gig at the annandale, i'd imagine melvins would get a healthily-sized support set...

first time i ever saw melvins they were brought out by, and supported, the cosmic psychos at the metro in sydney (this is a few years before tool brought them out, Stoner witch was their latest album at the time)

... they played a full hour and it was simply the most powerful, mesmorising hour of live music i still to this day have ever witnessed

after the set i just stood there with my equally-impressed mate, jaws still dropping, slightly bewildered to think that anyone could follow them... stuck around and saw the psychos, who i really dig, but they just didn't cut it after the incredible fest of sounds that was melvins

years later they did the same to Tomahawk at the Hordern, they opened with "the bit" off "stag" and fuck me dead it was the heaviest thing i've EVER heard, i was quite frankly possessed

As much as i love primus, i think melvins will win the sonic battle

looking forward to seeing the 2-drummer thing live for the first time, been flogginng youtube for recent live snippets

Yeah, I am a big fan of Big Business and it will be perfection to see the Melvins with Jared and Coady in the mix.

Primus with Jay will definately hold their own though.

The whole show will be extra special because I am in the fucking FRONT ROW!!!
