Swans Australian tour

Influential post-punk band Swans are coming to Australia for the first time ever in March of next year.

Forming in1982, Swans were one of the first bands to emerge from the New York ‘No Wave’ scene alongside the likes of Sonic Youth and 8-Eyed Spy. Led by the prolific Michael Gira the band released eleven albums over the course of fifteen years, finally going their separate ways in 1997.

After nearly a decade of pursuing side-projects Gira announced at the start of this year that he was resurrecting Swans, saying of the reunion: “ [This is] not some dumb-ass nostalgia act. It is not repeating the past. After five Angels Of Light albums, I needed away to move FORWARD, in a new direction, and it just so happens that revivifying the idea of Swans is allowing me to do that.”

And move forward they did, releasing their first album in 13 years, My Father Will Guide Me Up a Rope to the Sky, at the end of September. The record was given a respectable 7.7 from Pitchfork and inspired Gira to take the band on the road agan.

Swans will hit Australia for the first time ever in March 2011:

Sunday 6th March – Powerstation, Auckland
Thursday 10th March – Forum Theatre, Melbourne
Friday 11th March – The HiFi, Brisbane
Saturday 12th March – Metro Theatre, Sydney

Tickets on sale from 9am, Wednesday 27th October.
