Philly Jays replace drummer,again
Fri 1st Oct, 2010 in Local News
Philadelphia Grand Jury has again joined Wolfmother at the replacement drummer superstore, announcing their third drummer in as many years.
(In April this year Will Rockwell-Scott replaced Dave Atkins , who had replaced Myles Heskett, behind the Wolfmother drumkit)
The Philly Jays’ original drummer Dan Williams left the group in September 2009 to commit to a full time place behind the Art vs. Science kit. Williams’ position was filled by 55 year old Calvin Welch, who had played sessions with Earth Wind & Fire before moving to Australia, and performed with the band for the first time just over a year ago at last year’s Big Sound showcase in Brisbane.
The newest recruit for the role of Philly Jay drummer is Susie Dreamboat of Brisbane band I Heart Hiroshima
Making the announcement on Philly Jays’ MC Bad Genius wrote that:
“This will probably come as a shock to a lot of people, but we’re extremely sad to say that Calvin Welch won’t be drumming with us in Philadelphia Grand Jury any more. No-one is angry, but it simply hasn’t been working. Calvin has a wife and children to support and being in a totally independent band with a lot of hard touring to come over the next few years and it just wasn’t viable to keep going with the current setup.
Berkfinger and I are both extremely grateful for the excellent times we’ve had with Calvin and there is always a chance of all of us doing stuff together again in the future, as it seems that none of our drummers can stay away from us for too long!”
“Susie Dreamboat (who you should know from the uber-cool Brisbane band I Heart Hiroshima) has come straight from Berlin to join us on the road in the UK and will be with us throughout the USA and Australian tours. It might seem otherwise, but we’re pretty lucky with with drummers, because Susie is freaking amazing.”
The band is currently on tour in the UK, but the band’s new line up will be touring Australia in November and December with support from Howl and Bearhug.
