The National sideshowsrevealed

According to the kids over at Polaroids of Androids, The National will be playing two sideshows whilst in Australia for Falls Festival et al over New Year’s Eve.

The dates have been revealed early thanks to some nifty iphone work by this guy, and are sure to have fans of the band shaking in their corduroy pants.

The National was last on our shores for the Sydney Festival in 2008, where the band impressed audiences with their music “free of hamfisted histrionics, bombast, embarrassing earnestness or self serious throwback.”

Edit: The poster was slightly wrong – the Melbourne venue is the Palais Theatre, not the Palace.

The National tour:

Saturday 8th January – The Enmore, Sydney
Sunday 9th January – Palais Theatre, Melbourne

yes! wonder how much tix will cost. - tix for the nz shows were around $70, so expecting they'd be about the same price. tried to get tix for those shows but they sold both dates during presale within a good 20 minutes :(

enmore tends to over charge so i'd say around 70, depends if they do special seats like they did with grizzly bear.

$70 ain't bad to see one of the best albums of the year played live. plus, the palace is nice venue.
sunset sounds finishes on the 6th, auckland is 12th and 13th. plus there's a few days between southbound and sunset. so i'd think there's a good chance of more shows.

i'm going to melbourne over sydney this time for sideshows, brisbane will probably get nothing other than sunset sounds of course. hopefully they have a good support band , hopefully the middle east.

It's too bad Sunset Sounds continues to sell so well. They really need to move it to a weekend. Leaving work early during the middle of the week, directly after xmas holidays is shit. And, would it really hurt to do a sideshow in Brisbane? "Oh no, I couldn't possibly. I have to play a 50 minute set tomorrow at Sunsets." Wise up idiots.

at the moment their tour looks like this

30 Dec - Marion Bay
31 Dec - Lorne
2/3 Jan - Perth
5 Jan - Brisbane
8 Jan - Sydney
9 Jan - Melbourne
12 Jan- NZ

some of the festival dates are guesses

if they do add 2nd shows it will be quite a taxing tour for them. another show in sydney on the 7th and another show in melbourne on the 10th will mean 4 shows in 4 nights. theres no doubting it can be done but im not sure if they'll be all that willing to do that.

i'm thinking these tickets will go pretty damn quickly. it shouldn't be ruled out that they will do another show because of the 4 shows in four nights, judging by their euro dates they seem pretty willing to run by an intense tour schedule

It feels like we have, but I think that's the only time we've ever really met in person (I think) apart from the crazy exciting world of the internets. Strange that Parklife is the only place we've run into each other.

Part of me thinks they either weren't selling the B Reserve for presale or a tiny tiny amount were released. My mate saw they went on sale a couple minutes early and they were already 'sold out'. If it's neither of those, then I wish all concerts were like that (would make it much easier for me).

theyve announced a second show in both sydney and melbourne.

for the second sydney show the enmore website reads that tickets will go on sale at 12 noon this friday. but ticketek website says that tickets go on sale today (thurs) at 5pm? im hoping to buy the tickets at an outlet rather than online so i was wondering if anyone could confirm which time is accurate.

at the moment im leaning towards the ticketek times.

There were only 2 things that shitted me about the gig last night, the terrible terrible heat and the fact half the crowd were having like conversations all through songs. Was tres annoying, the show itself was pretty fucking special though, happy i went along

i went on friday night. i was in there from 7-30 to the end of the gig and despite simply standing there the whole time i was still extremely sweaty by the end.

i really really enjoyed the setlist they played on friday. i cant quite say it was the best gig ive ever been to but it was most certainly the best encore i have ever experienced. a passionate yet perfect Mr November followed by Terrible Love with matt jumping into the crowd and walking the infamous enmore barricade then finishing with a truly unplugged rendition of vanderlyle. it was really worth getting there a little early and being up near the front and singing with the band.

i absolutely adore the enmore. been there 6 times in the last 12 months and enjoyed every gig but they seriously need to renovate the joint!! im not sure if the whole broken down look is meant to be appealing but i find it appalling. if it wants to retain its status as one of the best venues in the country, it needs to spend some money on getting the place fixed up.

the middle east varied between absolutely brilliant and mediocre. Blood and Darkest Side sounded wonderful as did one other song of the EP i cant remember the name of. but they spent 10mins of their 30min set doing some vietnam vet monologue which is a complete waste of a support slot. you only have so much time to leave an impression.

the crowd on the first night was pretty decent except the constant annoying requests. someone near the end finally shouted out "play whatever you want!"

all in all it was a night i'll always remember. theres no doubt that they are one of the best bands of the last decade.
