Inaugural Melbourne MusicFestival announced

A new city-wide, council-funded festival will next month be launched with a brilliant array of local artists at a free Federation Square gig.
The inaugural Melbourne Music Festival this week announced its eclectic program, which will see dozens of musicians performing shows throughout the city’s music venues, streets, laneways and perhaps most interestingly, its trains and trams.
The festival will be launched in fairly spectacular fashion, with man of the year Dan Sultan, British India and current ‘it-band’ Eagle and the Worm all taking to the Fed Square stage.
The ubiquitous Dan Kelly and his Dream Band will also be in attendance, as will Sydneysiders Parades, who’s recent support for the Klaxons prompted FasterLouder’s reviewer to beam: ‘Parades delicately blend rock, techno and melodic classical-tinged indie…despite a smorgasbord of musical comparisons, the group is steadily creating a sound that is all its own.’
After relocating to Melbourne earlier in the year, popular indie-kids Purple Sneakers DJs will round out the night’s excellent line-up.
Having recently released its full list of nominated artists , the Jagermeister Independent Music Awards will also officially form part of Melbourne Music Festival.
Following the success of his album, Songs From The 86 Tram , The Bedroom Philosopher will fittingly perform a set on, you guessed it, the 86 tram.
The delightful all-female harmonies of Aluka will also take to the city’s tramlines, while a diverse range of artists including The Wellingtons, Red Ink, Charles Jenkins and Matheson will play to commuters in a series of open-air sets at Southern Cross and Flinders Street.
Full details of all the performances can be found at the festival’s website
