Big Day Out announcement date

It’s the announcement of an announcement that you’ve been waiting for – the Big Day Out has locked in the date that the lineup for the 2011 festival will be revealed.

The big moment to jot into your diary is midnight Tuesday 28th September, which means that it’s only 25 more sleeps until we know who will be playing at the massive touring festival.

FasterLouder will be staying up all night to bring you the news and has a few bets on who we might see on the lineup

I was listening to Triple J's interview with Nick Cave and at the end he said that they would be coming to Australia in January.
To me that's a big hint.

I'm not sure the BDO organisers feel the need to compete. They're aimed at different demographics.

somehow i don't feel lees and west will even acknowledge the existance of no sleep til'. it's a great lineup if thats your scene, but for wider appeal it's not even in the same league as big day out.

I seem to remember in previous years that the sideshows for the headline act were announced prior to the Big Day Out lineup. not sure if it happened for Muse, but I seem to remember Tool, RATM and Neil Young all getting announced early. Perhaps we'll be getting that news soon...

So with Soundgarden being from Seattle and KOL from Tennesse, only one of these 2 could be on the bill.

Weezer are from LA and are headline material (and are a band), what are their chances of being on the bill?

Hellboy - Muse didn't do any sideshows, so they could have the same deal this year.

I dunno, are Weezer really big enough to headline? I mean I know they're big in some circles, but do they have the same popularity/reputation as other recent headliners? I'd love to see them play the BDO though...

Yeah all the Tool evidence makes me a sad panda.

And there is still an option for one other band so now I guess we can argue between Tool and KOL or Tool and SG, although my money would say that if they go with Tool they won't have SG because they would be to much alike in a heavy rock band kind of way.

It goes without saying that the BDO has basically become a huge butthole of a festival but if Tool headline for the second time in five years (without even a new release to tour) it will have achieved the unimaginable,becoming even more of a butthole.

Let not get too carried away. Recycling of headline acts on Big Day Out has been going on since year 1. It's the supporting acts that normally make or break the event in my opinion.

Linkin Park took my concerginity and it was so much fun. If they DID play bdo, I'd hope they'd play their old stuff to remind me of being back in school. If not, I'll still see them because they were that special band back then ;)

I think it's just guys who don't go to many festivals other than soundwave or they're just not focussed on them enough to look at how promoters work.

Or people who just say artists they like, like the countless Eminem suggestions every year.

So I feel we are safe to say that headliner rumours are at a dead end.
