FasterLouder revealed the leaked tour dates yesterday, but now it’s official – U2 will tour Australia in December.

The touring show will feature 600 tonnes of sound and light equipment and the expanding screen of The Claw stage setup, which requires 120 trucks to move and 157 production crew members to assemble.

U2’s manager Paul McGuinness says that “U2 has always been at their best when surrounded by their audience, and this extraordinary production makes that happen in stadiums… It was important to the band that we were able to bring the whole 360° production to Australia and New Zealand so fans could experience the latest of U2’s legendary productions.”

Co-promoters Live Nation Australia and Michael Coppel say that the 360 Degrees tour “is the biggest tour that any artist has ever mounted – or possibly ever will mount.”

U2 tour:
Wednesday 1st December – Etihad Stadium, Melbourne
Wednesday 8th December – Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane
Monday 13th December – ANZ Stadium, Sydney
Saturday 18th December – Subiaco Oval, Perth

Tickets on sale Friday 3rd September

Ticketmaster website, they have some basic details up and apparently the price ranges from 40-350 clams. I read in the local rag (not sure how reliable) that general admission is $100.

Anyone else slightly confused by Bono's humanitarian stance in contrast with the massive spending on his bands live show? It's liek he cares about saving lives, but not enough to sacrafice his giant egoness. I'm kind of confused.

A lot of Bono's "charity work" is largely just a load of self-serving bullshit. His "RED" charity was a dismal failure, the advertising (100 million) cost more money than it delivered (18 million), but hell, a bunch of brands like Apple and Motorola received lots of promotion. Pity the kids in Africa saw jack shit.

He and his wife own a clothing label which engages in using African sweatshop labour. Not necessarily anything worse than any other sweatshop, but nonetheless it is not exactly something to be proud of for someone who would make people believe he wouldn't agree with selling $275 jeans made by poor Africans for 50c an hour (and below the minimum wage level).

Not to mention he and the band blatantly rort taxes in their home country, while hypocritically calling on the Irish government to give more of their tax money to Africa. Or he makes pathetic court cases sueing poor bastards for taking a hat or something stupid. He is an egotistical knob who is only interested in making as much money as he can for himself, his do-gooder causes are merely a means to promot himself as much as possible and feed his ego/image/bank account

I just find it bemusing to criticize someone for making a strong effort to help others. It would seem that it is better to amass millions and do nothing. As soon as you make an effort it becomes a question of why not give even more and why are you still making millions?
All of the organizations Bono has set up require his name and face to garner publicity for the cause. Unfortunately buying 1,000 hectares of rainforest does nothing for the 3 billion hectares still at risk. As they say in GI Joe PSA's "knowing is half the battle".

I'm sure Bono would disagree that they've lost their touch as he front-flips into his pool of money, Scrooge McDuck style. Here in the real world, though, I think it's more to do with the band losing their ability to write great songs rather then being "commercial sell-outs" (probably the most over-used term in the history of music forums).

Basically, they got commercially successful years ago...they made great, groundbreaking songs and they were relevant. Flash forward to today: songs, not so great; ground, not being broken; relevancy, not really there...apart from their generally outspoken agenda's, which make them magnets for critics anyway.

Having said that, I've never met anyone who saw them live and came out unimpressed.

The only reason he had a "headline" tour then was because of the canceled U2 tour at the time. There was a lot of stress at the time as to whether or not Kanye's show would also be canceled/if he would return when rescheduled.

Were you even at the shows? He got the same response I see many a support band get in front of a huge crowd of dedicated fans. Hell, he got a better reception than the Gorillaz replacement Glasto set.
